Awesome! Something bothers me about your water animation though. I think it's that there's two separate animations going on that are mirror images of each other and pulling the eye in different directions. I think it might look better if you just used on version of the animation throughout.

I am reusing and modifying a sprite I used back in 2004 in my new game. I'm better at pixel art now than I was then, but this sprite was already like 80% good (at least for my standards).
So the main difference in terms of my skill, at least for walkabout-sized things aping the GBC Dragon Warrior games in style, is more one of realizing not every piece of a sprite needs a thick outline all the way around it and taking a little extra time for extra details.

The paint lines in the intersection look less like what I'm used to in the updated version. You get lines all the way through the intersections where you live?Fenrir-Lunaris wrote:
Just showing off a little here
It's definitely a straight visual upgrade overall.

Very nice! Are any of these backgrounds animated?

Despite their being clearly inspired by a certain freemium mobile game, none of the backdrops are animated. The game's final battle backdrop however IS planned to be animated in some manner, so there's always that to look forward to!
...on a slightly related note (that should probably go in the hype your game thread), I just spent 8 hours adding in no less than NINE cutscenes in the game's final dungeon which serve no other purpose than to clear up a bunch of plot holes. I think this is a much better alternative than forcing a player to sit through a bunch of huge unskippable walls of text before a battle.

Made great progress this weekend by chipping away at some of the more unique backgrounds in Vikings.

It took me a few tries to get this dinosaur head looking the way I wanted it to.
Notice the different dithering techniques.
