I loved Tales of Phantasia, but I wasn't thinking about it at all, in fact I almost always use many references when I create sprites.
I used Alex and Luna/Mia/Jessica from Lunar and Selan from Lufia 2 to get ideas on how I wanted them to look.
I've been using this program on/off for about 12 years and I have yet to make a game longer than a few to several hours because I get so into making sprites/maptiles.

This guy reminds me in someways of my favorite caveman, which is cool!DukeofDellot wrote:I'm finding myself more and more envious of other people's skills.
But I had fun with this guy.
Somehow I forgot just how much effort goes into this game making stuff.
Also I've been meaning to ask; are you THE DukeofDellot that made OHRstat? You have no idea how many days of balancing that thing has saved me in the last few months so thank you very much!

Someone uses that? Yeah, that was me, and thank you, such flattery is an unexpected but very nice start for my day.NeoSpade wrote:Also I've been meaning to ask; are you THE DukeofDellot that made OHRstat? Not quite a battle sprite, but I redesigned my Swashbulcker character, and I had so much fun with his portrait that I thought I'd share.
...
Used to be an Elf... a Sea Elf... Now he's a Bandin with bangs that look like a mustache. And I bet he wishes he could grow a mustache, but he can't... unless he shaved off all the fur on his muzzle other than where a mustache would grow... I wish I could grow a mustache like that.

Might as well put these two things in here for those people who don't go on IRC:
The first is going to be a regular midgame enemy, the second is going to be the first or second adventurer that the protagonists bump into.
I would have backgrounds to show off, but I'm lazy and like to not really work on things steadily.
