Let's give back to TMC
I'll keep this short. For way too long, TMC's been working with not just "outdated" hardware, but truly ancient stuff. I'm talkin' standard hardware you still wouldn't be impressed with if you lived in the 90s.
Recently we've introduced contests with buy-ins and such and I believe we can repurpose that trend. What would you guys say to a little fundraiser?
After all, I don't need to tell you how much impact TMC's work has for this community.
* Paypal through a trustworthy mediator
* $15 suggested donation, less than what you pay for a medium size pizza

Do you make love with the same urgency you make games?

If someone has his address, we can ignore his plights not to give him stuff and do it anyway.
Are we thinking cash donation? New computer? Software licenses? Junk food? All of the above?
Or spoon giftboxes?
Ed: rue doesn't read posts. either way, donating towards these things, I mean.

He ordered an Axe Cop Holiday Mug. I have his address.
Well he did a mail forwarding thing, so not his New Zealand address. I'm not sure if what he gave me is still valid for that.

We could do something like the game called Retro Game Crunch. It is a collection of short, sweet games that are pretty fun to play. We could make a group called something like "OHR Crunch Team" and create a game pack called the "OHR Ambassador Pack"(names in quotes can be changed), then sell them with half of the proceeds going to OHR engine development. We could even make multiple volumes over time and just have that be the main means of fundraising.

That's an exaggeration. My hardware is mostly 11 years old. Computers just haven't improved much since then.ArtimusBena wrote:TMC's been working with not just "outdated" hardware, but truly ancient stuff. I'm talkin' standard hardware you still wouldn't be impressed with if you lived in the 90s.
But Bena is referring to my 2nd monitor (admittedly 18 years old) which died a strange death last night (the VGA cable fell out and doesn't work after plugging back in!) I've replaced it with a mostly-working spare.
I've turned down donations because, well, if I needed money I would get a job instead of living a minimal lifestyle. I don't harbour hope of making an income writing open source software.
I wouldn't count on the forwarding address still working.

The idea is not to pay you for your services. This is a one time chip-in to help you upgrade your equipment. Kind of a win-win for everybody and there seems to be a lot of vigorous support for the idea!
This is something TMC said to me last night:
So, who would like to volunteer to collect everybody's $15 suggested donations?

I'd like to help TMC get to a 2 monitor set-up personally. Monitors aren't that expensive and using two changed my workflow for the better.

Okay, if you guys are keen on it, please send your contribution to the cause via paypal to eponymous.ent@gmail.com. RMZ also has access to this account.
Please also send a small message with it, indicating what it's for.
If tmc absolutely refuses to take the money, I'll give it to James. Sound fair?
