That is not what you are doing.SwordPlay wrote: It's much more common for British people to take the piss out of themselves (self-deprecation), sarcastically.
Being rude and calling it humor is a weak and dishonest defense. Further claiming that your audience can't possibly understand your humor is pretty insulting as well. (Did you know that there are many members from outside the US? Did you know that British comedies are actually fairly popular in the US? Did you know that British humor is not nearly as impenetrable as you're claiming?)
But even if everything you said were true, it wouldn't excuse your behavior. I refuse to believe you are only encountering Americans, Canadians, and Australians for the first time here.

I'm not claiming British humour is impenetrable.
You are putting words in my mouth! That is disingenous.
I'm claiming that meaning is impenetrable, and that can be hindered by the large gap in communication sensibilities between British and American english, let alone people from the same country speaking the same language, who happen to come from different areas.
Yes I know there are people from outside of the states here.
I even talked to some (many) of them!
Good conversations I've had, including with Aussies and a few Canadians.
And Americans! And many non-native speakers.
Much respect to them all, but I would never imagine I understand the context/subtext just because we are mutually speaking english.
Why are you putting words in my mouth? That is disingenuous.
It's not my first rodeo, if that's what you're trying to say, and I never claimed that.
It's "my own slimed up humour informed and exacerbated by some differences in the way we understand and use English". Not whatever straw you vaguely clutched.
Maybe meaning really IS difficult to obtain??
Nah, that could never be the case, as long as we're polite we all understand each other immaculately, right?
If you want me to apologise, or whatever is upsetting you, just state this, instead of casting aspersions and putting words in my mouth.
If you say my behaviour is inexcusable, I might accept that if you point it out specifically. Am I supposed to guess what upsets you?
Generally, I am not okay. I was rude. That's not good enough. I get it.
But I don't know what you want from me.
Either come up with something meaningful (i.e. what you would like to happen, realistically), and not some nonsense about how you understand British speech so much, because, you likely do not, regardless if you watched comedies or whatever.
Yeah, great, really impressive. That's (British, ostensibly) sarcasm btw
Saying "we know British comedy in America" doesn't mean much, honestly.
You barely have any British comedy, compared to, say, Britain, which arguably has it all.
But it varies on the streets and by town, and so on. Do you really understand that?
Do you think people from a ghetto communicate in the same way as those from a boarding school? Don't they deserve the same opportunities, help, support, regardless of their background, and not to be taken at face value or judged for their internalised mistakes which have been taught by our peers?
Even if they are from the same country, they are not from the same cloth.
Even if they speak the same language, they speak it differently enough that it becomes foreign.
How can you even compare made-for-TV pap with genuine spontaneous inherited speech?
I have seen this for a fact, how dialects can become unintelligible in phonetics, grammar, content/style etc.,
Even Australians have their own avant-garde sense of humour, such as calling their mates the C-word (we say this in parts of Britain as well actually)...
Let alone the Scottish antagonism (black humour).
I won't get into this, because all these cultural differences are rather vast.
And I would not dream of pretending that I can bridge any cultural/sociological/neurotypical gap through dint of my own knowledge alone.
TLDR; unless you grew up where I grew up (i.e, be me), you probably don't understand the way I speak. I assume the same is true for everyone.
If you are neurotypical, then more so. And if you are not, I would hope that you would appreciate the differences, rather than gloss over them, assume authority and put words in my mouth, and accuse me of things (which, as founded as they may be) have no supporting case, such as a quote, or even direction as to what you are referring to.
Am I really supposed to "understand" you in this case? Be specific.
I'M NOT SO MUCH OF A GENIUS THAT I CAN READ YOUR MIND OR SOMETHING
(that'd be silly right?)
Obviously you have all the facts, and you can do what you want, because it's your server. You are all-knowing and all-powerful. I am a pleb.
I already know that you prefer Wobbler to me, your own words, and it doesn't bother me.
Obviously he's been around for a long time and you understand each other well.
and I'm dishonest and rude and all that slime XD

I'm sorry to hear you feel personally attacked Swordplay.
Let's just put this all in the past and move forward.
I'll see what I can do about getting you unbanned from discord, you're missed there.

SwordPlay, you were banned because people complained (not Wobbler, if you're wondering). I do not enjoy flexing the moderator muscles, and I resent you for making it necessary.
But I currently resent you less than I dislike moderating, and so I'm going to make you a deal. So long as you confine whatever it is you're doing to this thread -- where there are three kinds of people: me, you, and people using American humor on you -- you may, as we say here, keep on truckin'. I am going to stop engaging you here, because I lack both the time and inclination to discuss this any more than I have, and I will go so far as to ignore complaints from other members made about this thread unless you, I don't know, start posting porn or something.
Furthermore, you may continue to participate in the rest of the site as you were doing previously. However, the first drunkpost (or whatever we're calling it) in any thread that is not this one gets you the hammer. I am not going to lay out specific rules over what constitutes a bannable offense where you are concerned. I am going to ask you to observe and emulate the behavior of your fellow members, which has not proved difficult for anyone else. Yes, that means you are indeed meant to guess what upsets others around you. It's called "participating in society."

Fair responses from all admins and mods.
I will abide. As best I can.
No promises. Isn't life great? Life is made out of moments like these, yknow
Should I feel bitter? I feel respect, rather.
Whatever you decide is good for the community. Orz
I apologise for the trouble I've caused...
EDIT: I love Rick Astley
