For those who didn't see in Discord tonight, Fen let me help update the portal with the Bifrost. Everybody act surprised when you see it in Mr. Triangle's Maze someday though! This was a fun collab for Fen and myself and I honestly just love watching it work.

Four last minute additions, as per the dev-team and playertesters' suggestions.

First, Red's cracked Vikings open and added the ONLY slices in the game. The effect is amazing in action.

Secondly, Artimus Bena's gone and added in transparency to the game's "environmental" effects, such as snow, rain, and the like. The fact that this didn't take a complete re-write of the game's many map layers is what might be the most impressive part!

Thirdly, you can outright turn the game's random encounters on or off, as is your liking. I make no guarantees that you'll miss out on much needed experience if you do so, but the option is there if you're just trying to get back to town and desperately need to heal. Vikings is VERY forgiving to the player!

Lastly, and probably the one feature that people have been asking for since day one... Bird Hints. Once you've got access to Hugin and Munin, they'll share their vast knowledge with the player, and perhaps most helpful of all, remind you where you need to go next. They'll only keep track of "mandatory" events of course, and they're completely optional. I completely understand why some people will put down a game because they can't figure out where to go or what to do next, and sometimes you just want the game to throw you a bone and point right at the thing you need to do next.

These things mostly came about due to RMZ playing through the game live on the Slime Salad Discord server. We've since come to the conclusion that having the game's dev in the background giving commentary on things is VERY awesome, and I can't wait to see future OHRRPGCE game creators do the same with their own games.

I'm so glad we played the game this way. The commentary was good, we had a whole team of people in the stream helping with bugs. I mean, everybody helped with typos, walls, shadows, etc. I definitely feel like Fen got his money's worth watching us play for 13 hours.

There's also a lot to be said for being a developer and actually being present for some of the big shocking moments that you spend hours and hours programming. I think that happened last night. The game is tremendously satisfying both as a RPG fan and a long time OHR member. There's a lot of Fenrir in here and a lot of US. Absolutely loved it. Great job Fen.

If you as a developer want to take an ice-cold shower, do exactly that. You will be soooo ashamed, when someone breaks your game in such obvious ways, that you will call yourself just plain stupid. But it's because you have run through your game thousand times before and won't be able to see your blind spots! And everyone has them, so it's not stupid, it's human.

What you've done there sounds very effective. Great! Improved Vikings even more!

Bug-fixing is as complete as I can reasonably expect from the second wave of testers. The nightly version 20200723 is now officially the ~last~ version that Vikings has been touched with. Later versions of course will work, but no new features are going in that the game will make use of. In programming/development speak, we're now at the "Release Candidate" stage - unless there's an absolutely critical bug discovered in the next 4 or 5 days, the game will be complete and ready for packaging in Hróðvitnir.

I've had to rewrite the game's included PDF manual from scratch. I refuse to pay for Adobe's proprietary editor. Same with Office360. OpenOffice is a godsend.

I have no idea how to potentially include the game's PDF/Readme, or other script files in a mac or linux distribution. Those players comprise a very SMALL subset of OHR players, but I'd like to not exclude them if possible. Same with the possibility of packaging the game for Android players (Or Steam for that matter).

Just want to let you know I am playing through on my phone. It has been going very smoothly so far. I am enjoying myself, and I notice that things seem well balanced, and there is even more stuff to do than I remembered (I haven't played in years, and I don't think I ever got to the end of the last major release)

It's going to take me some time to play all the way through. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Vikings's page cleanup is complete. It'll be REALLY obvious which one's the most up-to-date file now, if only because of the huge jump in file size between Alectormancy and Hróðvitnir versions (almost ten times)!

I've settled on Windows, 64-bit Mac, and whatever the 64-bit version of Linux distribution is (the first one). My suspicion is that most Mac users have a 64-bit operating system of some sort, but I'm not actually sure how many people use it. Same for Linux. I've also gone ahead and created an itch.io account for when the big day comes. Of course, I'll be pointing people to the main engine page too when that time comes.

Just waiting on one last "go" before I break Slime Salad's filesize limit, but at least we're not stuck in the days of Castle Paradox, where uploading games would timeout. :v:
