Re: Walthros: Renewal
Thanks! I'm relieved to be more or less done with major town stuff, it always takes me forever.
Pig Time: Redesigning some of the early NPC graphics. Old on the left, new on the right. I never quite liked how the old pigs looked. That was one of the first sprites I drew for the game.

Re: Walthros: Renewal
Act 2 is done and ready for testers! Into the game's next phase.
This is a huge milestone for me. The next act's main content is shorter, just one city, one village, and three dungeons. The majority of its content is side quests, and those are the most fun part of the game to make. After that, Act 4 is just the final dungeon and ending.

Re: Walthros: Renewal
Players get their own HQ in act 3. Each hero has a different job, talk to them to learn, laugh, and grow!
Implemented so far:
Salom - Finds side stories the player hasn't started yet.
Woo - Players select topics to learn more about world history.
Roland - Talk to him to listen to any of the game's tracks and assign one as HQ's theme music.
Sam - Blacksmith, upgrade materials.
Suwanee - Exchange items for other items (no dollars involved)
Hank - You earn XP each time you eat at a new restaurant, and Hank is happy to help you find any you've missed. Eat at them all for a reward!

Talking to Grant in HQ gives Bob the rare opportunity to get stupid huge muscles. There will be a series of exercises, each boosting a different stat. Bob can lift weights to increase Attack. Jogging boosts speed.

Re: Walthros: Renewal
Building a better Beta City: Watching tester videos made me feel the game's first town is too small and unpopulated considering its context in the world. I'm expanding it now: The blank areas are new platforms.

What ideas do you have for the platforms? A grocery store for Bob to get kicked out of?

Re: Walthros: Renewal
I'm going to move the school that's on the east platform to its own area so it's not cramping up the residential area, and will add a museum with a bunch of artifacts referencing past games and stuff. There's something like that in the game already but from the plot it makes sense to have one here too. The original game had a battle training area, so I think I'll add that too. Not a full coliseum but just a place to practice moves/characters, sort of an optional tutorial area.

Building the Beta City Museum. One area is the Children's Wing, featuring artwork drawn back in 1998 for the original Walthros.

Re: Walthros: Renewal
I'm definitely not finishing Walthros: Renewal by end of summer, but the game is maybe 75% done? End of year should be easy. Maybe I'll do another Halloween release.
I'm making bear sprites now. Needed some big woolly boys to hang around the colder parts of the world.
The highest praise possible

Re: Walthros: Renewal
The total revamp of Beta City is done! Will be nice to get back to the main plot after this, but I'm glad I took the time to improve the early game. Here's Bob's uncle. You can fight in a battle simulator in his lab.

I can't wait for this to be released. It's so rare to see an RPG with such creativity and charm in an age bombareded with anime games and kemonomimis.

Re: Walthros: Renewal
Working on NPC conversations today. Walthros: Renewal has 771 NPC and hero graphic sets so far. The original Walthros had only 197 total. This time around every single NPC uses a unique graphic set.
