Backdrop vs Tileset for single sceen map

Post by LieMurderProfit »

I'm thinking of using a single image for my map and disabling scrolling. This will give me a variety of fancy looking maps that I couldn't archieve with tiles.

Planing on chopping up the map image into tiles then laying them out in the correct order in Custom to recreate the map image.

I know I could use backdrops and load them at map start but that would make it harder (in Custom) to place npcs/walls etc?

Wondering if there are any gotchas with my approach.

Yeah, you can import a bmp as a tileset, similarly to how you import full screens. If you go into the tile editor on the map, push enter to select a tile, and then hold space while "dragging" with the arrow keys, you can select a chunk of a tileset to place at once.
