Mr. Triangle's Maze

So most of you might remember a little game called Mr. Triangle's Maze from 2008. Well, we DID finish it. However, at the time I was doing MTA and didn't feel like making the ending to this game. Five-six years later, I commissioned Soda Piggy to do those backdrops when I worked on them and hated my results. Now, Worthy is kind of in the wind a bit and I'm trying to salvage what the game is so I can release it once and for all. It's got 9 super challenging boss fights and 55 levels. Soda Piggy has made his best soundtrack ever and it's mastered and done. It's ready to go... Well there are things that are broken that were good in 2008, so I'll have to attend to those when the time comes.

If you remember 2008, the art style was a bit different. I'm taking what I learned from doing Red & Blue's mock graphics and using that style here. I think it really works. Anyways, my goal is to spruce up enough old content to put together a gameplay trailer and then put the game on Steam Greenlight. I'd LIKE to get the game greenlit (massive wishful thinking) ASAP so that it's grandfathered in to the new system for Steam. As I make updates, I'll try to post them here and share. I know a lot of you guys were very fond of the 2008 demo.

So the backdrops that Soda Piggy drew weren't for the missing ending, but the game did get completed, and you just held off releasing it because you wanted to polish it further?

Seems like you're getting a lot done. I honestly haven't played Mr Triangle's Adventure, so I was surprised to discover that it's actually one of the biggest OHR games ever; on some metrics like number of maps, enemies and formations it's actually larger than Adventures of Powerstick Man!

The game was completed in like 2011, but I think future updates make a lot of stuff error now that were fine then. And now, it's like pulling teeth to get Worthy online to work on it. I think he's made one update since 2011. The guy is super busy, I get it. It's my fault for picking MTA over Maze in 2011. I made a video last night and as soon as Soda Piggy arranges the soundtrack to it, I'll be sharing it and the Steam Greenlight page.

I'm hoping that it moves along pretty quickly so that we get grandfathered in to the old way of doing things on Steam!

Here are some shots that I am using on the Steam listing.

If the game's broken due to changes in engine behaviour, we definitely want to have a look at that and try to fix it. Would it be possible for you to provide details, save files, etc?

So when is Greenlight actually going to shut down; is that known?

It's just like scripts don't totally work the same as before and I think some of the language was tweaked. If I can get Worthy to sit down with it for a day or two, we can knock it out. If he can't and I gotta figure this out or hire somebody to do it, I'll definitely provide that. I've came across three bugs so far in the game.

I think Surlaw shared an article with me that said it'd be in the Spring for Greenlight's new policy. It's kinda scary, says $100-$5000 for submission fees, even if that amount will eventually be paid back. I barely got the $100 to get MTA and Surfasaurus listed. Heck, I used Heart of the OHR winnings for it.

Yeah, let us know exactly what script stuff doesn't work as you find it.

Some of it might be easy fixes. Other stuff might be actual engine bugs that we need to fix on our end.

Valve is "not yet prepared to comment" on the date aside from "Spring." They're being obnoxiously vague about the entire thing.

Alright, I can do that. I'll try to document everything pretty extensively. I didn't write the code, so patching it might be trickier than I might sign up for, but if it helps the overall cause and not just the game I'll totally do it. Thanks for all you dudes do.

Trigula, Queen of the Snakes, and the 4th Maze Master. This is one of those areas where the old NPCs (like most in this game) are really really awful. I feel pretty pleased with her new animations and the redrawn snake graphics. The giant snake she turns into after this scene looks especially good I think. There's a glimpse of that in the upcoming trailer.

<a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/user/RedMave ... 3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b175/ ... kvjte3.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo MTM Thief_zpsrgkvjte3.jpg"></a>
This isn't as neat as Trigula, which... how could it be? I was making Halloween Quest 3 when this game was being developed and Worthy and I wanted to introduce a thief square, something that would strip the user of their suits and keys and switch activations. A reset button, unless you wore the thief suit itself. Well the thief was modelled after Delvire, a character from Fenrir's Timestream Saga, who was a main character in HQ3 at the time.

Didn't do any bug hunting yesterday, but I am almost at the point that levels 1-40 are cleaned up with new art. I'm told the audio for the trailer will be today, so fingers crossed there.

That was quick. (I guess Greenlight is probably getting flooded right now!) Voted. Although, I think certain bits of the trailer were a bit slow and maybe would have been better edited shorter: both long shots of walking with not much happening, sometimes pauses like at 0:11. You've got so many levels that you can easily show off more of them. There was definitely good stuff in there.

This looks really good, RMZ. I agree with TMC that some of the video footage could've featured primarily faster moments in the game, or at least moments where there's no standing still, but it all moves quickly enough that it's barely noticeable. I think this game deserves wider attention. Glad you're putting it up there.

Between you, Wobbler, Meatballsub, and Willy Elektrix, I think the OHR is getting a great introduction into what it can do on the Steam platform. Keep 'em coming.

(Oh, and everyone here knows you didn't rip graphics from Zelda. There's only so many ways to draw a block or key.)

Heh, I think RMZ already is trying to fix up enough games at once.

When you put an old game for sale you have raise it up to a higher standard (in many different regards). Afterall, most OHR games have ripped music. Too bad there really aren't that many games complete and up to standard.

Yeah that wilco guy is kind of a jerk. I deleted his comment before because it was actually more rude than what you saw. I think it was "Hey Nintendo called and they want all their art back." I don't want to discourage new people from seeing the game and being influenced by a troll's opinions, but I also gotta be careful cause if I delete enough of this guy's crap he's gonna just get more and most hostile like he seems to be. I'd hate for my game page to turn into a breeding ground for conflict when I just want people to look at the game.

I did update the box and the rock. Updating the box wasn't a bad move because it forced me to revisit the animations for it falling into the lava and now it looks better than ever. I also don't know why, it's a result of the 2008-2009 version of the game, but the rocks were all color based when they could easily just be area based.

<a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/user/RedMave ... r.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b175/ ... t1rrvr.png" border="0" alt=" photo TriMazeR0004_zpsptt1rrvr.png"></a>

Now the rocks that would have been more Zelda shaped are a bit more... crumbled lava looking and less of a color like the level (which is green for the 4th boss section). Also replaced the teal rocks with ice cubes that look fused to the ice itself to bump into. Overall the game benefited from wilco's comments even if the listing page won't.
