Hyne, knowing that he can't take out LeBlau and her... flying.. pasta monster.. thing.. no matter what circumstance favors him at this moment, decides to continue walking through the buildings away from sight.

In his mind he decides that he can't receive the map that was promised unless the captain might require it; he is lucky enough that he can talk to the captain tonight as it is.

Hyne is going to have to do something to make it harder for Tancred and the military to do their jobs. He wonders what the fastest and most discreet way to spread a rumor would be... He decides to go find some stacks of arrows to purchase while he brainstorms.

As Hyne stealths away, a ship blocking his view of LeBleu and Flumphy, he can hear her say;

"Look at that. It says he's moving. That can't be right!"

She sounds frustrated.

"To move that fast he would have to be right on top of us.... yes... fine, fine, you try it."

Hyne makes his way out of the docks without being followed, and returns to the market.

Not far away from Meleander's booth, Hyne finds "The Eclectic Fletcher", a medium-sized arrow-maker's booth, sandwiched in-between "Curses for Your Enemies" and "Rope, Rope, Rope (And Nets)"

The booth has racks upon racks of arrows of every size and design. All have brightly colored markings, either feathers, or painted stripes. In the back is a row of cages full of various parrots and other birds. They talk and squabble with one another.

The fletcher is seated. She is a thin, tall elf of indeterminate age. Her jet black hair is tied back in a bun. She is working on a stack of wooden dowls, spinning and weighing them, tossing aside the imperfect ones.

A big red-skinned Orc wearing a nice suit is standing next to her, chatting. "It was alright. A bit long. Old Maglauv went long."

"His mind is going." the fletcher says, shaking her head sadly.

"Yeah." replies the Orc. "Cray looked so impatient it almost made the show better. Well, I hope his majesty's soul rests well."

The fletcher shrugs noncommittally.

They both glance at Hyne as he approaches.

While approaching, Hyne can't quite tell what they're talking about but can tell it's idle chatter that isn't much of his business. He smiles and nods, asking, "How much are a quiver's worth of arrows?"

"Depends on which kinds of arrows" says the fletcher, with a smile.

"Well, I'm off to the coronation." says the Orc. He gives the elf a kiss on the cheek, and turns around to leave the tent. "If there is a buffet, I'll bring you back a plate"

"If there's a buffet, you will conduct yourself with restraint and decorum!" she calls after him.

"Right". she says, turning her attention back to Hyne.

"I price by the arrow, not my the quiver, but I think you will find my prices competitive-- for the level of quality. These over here are 2 silver each" she points to a rack of crisp sharp looking arrows. "The crossbow bolts above are the same."

"The grooved arrows are 5 silver each", she says pointing to some green-feathered arrows with odd slits in the heads.

"The fire arrows are 1 gold each" she points to red-and-yellow-feathered arrows with small black bulks directly behind each arrowhead.

"The lightening arrows come in 'wet' and 'dry', at 2 gold and 5 gold each respectively."

"Homing arrows are 10 gold each"

Hyne also spots a bin behind the parrot cages labeled "Bargain" but the fletcher does not mention it.

Although the bargain arrows seem enticing, he can wait until later to purchase or carve cheap arrows himself. He rubs his nose with his forearm as he listens to the prices, then requests, "Five fire arrows for five gold, and three golds worth of the two-silver arrows. I'd like them tied into separate bundles."

The fletcher counts out 5 fire arrows and 15 plain arrows, and ties them into bundles with tear-away ribbon.

"Pleasure doing business with you." she says.

By the angle of the sun, it is now an hour past noon.

The market is unusually quiet for a market. Many of the stalls seem to be currently closed.

Some distant drum-beats and trumpets sound from the direction of the castle on the east edge of the city.

Seagulls cry from the direction of the docks.

Parrots squabble from inside the fletcher's booth

No threats of any kind are currently visible.

The situation isn't good. The way the sun is up it will be harder to find shadows, and his movements and sounds stand out even more.

He removes the bandanna and eye patch. It hasn't done him much good. He decides to head back to the inn to retrieve the rest of his items, hopefully his current clothing are enough to abandon the 'ranger in a city' look.

Hyne returns to the inn without incident.

The belongings he stashed away in his room are undisturbed.

Looking out the window of the room provides a good vantage point over the city.

Eastward, crowds are visible around the edge of the castle. it looks like a big event, and almost everbody is there-- even bigger than the crowds on Temple Row for the funeral.

Westward, temple row and the marketplace look rather empty. Having seen the temples up close earlier today, Hyne can now guess from distance which of them belongs to Pelor, Umbarlee, Lockean, and Ayailla. The dome of Ayailla's observatory where Hyne was briefly climbing around. is especially familiar. Some people are moving around in the roof of Pelor's temple, but it is too far away to see who they are or what they are doing.

The docks, with its jumble of wood walkways and forest of sails is north. Hyne can see the blue sail of the Flying Eye Goddess.

Down in the streets below Hyne, he sees Mr Flumphy, drifting along. The dowsing gem glints in his outstretched tentacle. He turns a corner, and seems to be making a slow circle around the building that Hyne is looking down from. Scorpion LeBleu is nowhere in sight.

Running out of options, this may be his only chance.

He heads out of the inn from the front, now that he has his equipment.

Before speaking with the flumph, he looks to make sure LeBlau isn't around, and then willingly meets up with it.

"Hey there, little fellow," he begins, "What's that thing you got there?"

LeBleu is still nowhere in sight.

The Flumph is staring at the wobbling gemstone, and is completely started when Hyne addresses him.

"Oh! Oh Dear! Nothing!"

The words are not audible in Hyne's ears, they speak directly into his mind, as if telepathically inserted.

The Flumph rapidly tucks away the gem and its string under his big feathered hat. It drifts a little right and left nervously, and speaks again into Hyne's mind.

"Just... looking for some... thing...one.. Looking for you! Oh dear! Didn't mean to think that! Nope, nope, dash it all, not looking for you, oh dear, Stop thinking so loud Flumphy, oh dear!"

Before Flumphy tucked the gem under his hat, Hyne got a good clear look at it.

It is a clear blue-tinted gemstone, about the size of a large cherry-pit.

Tied around it in some kind of a basket-knot is a very thin brown string. The string looked to be several feet long, but Flymphy had most of the excess balled up in his tentacle, so when he was holding it, it only dangled down about six inches.

In the moment before he hid it away, the gem seemed to have been wobbling and spinning back and forth in a subtly unnatural way

About 2 inches of the end of the string protrude from underneath Flumphy's hat. Hyne almost didn't see it at first, since it was such a thin string

Hyne smiles and playfully pats the creature at the side of its.. whatever constitutes a head. As he does this he slips his fingers between the string.

"Well Fluffy, I've gotta head out but it was a pleasure meeting you." He grins and taps the air with a tilt of his head, "I don't think that pirate you hang with likes you very much, by the way."

He stands up and moves past the floating down the alley. Once he is behind the creature he'll yank the string to pull the crystal toward him and slip it into his jacket.

Then he looks for an escape route.

Flumphy jiggles like jelly when Hyne comments "that pirate you hang with"

The Flumph's thoughts again project into Hyne's mind, sounding both indignant and pleading "Miss LeBleu is my closest friend! Yes, what they say is true, she is a bit too violent at times, but she.."

Flumphy does not even notice the gem slip out from underneath his hat.

"...just gets carried away!"

Hyne glances around for an escape route.

He could just run down the street either way. He doesn't know how fast the Flumph can move.

There is an ally-way close by on his left, but until he goes into it, he won't know if it is a blind alley or if it has an outlet.

Most of the buildings on this street have fire-escapes hanging down from their second stories, and most of them look like they are in jumping range.

"Look sir," thinks Flumphy "LeBleu and I only want to recover the Queen's Crown. We don't care to harm you. Perhaps we can come to an agreement?"

The creature's thoughts not lowering in volume in his head force Hyne to feel obligated to respond to it. He turns and looks at the creature once more and for a moment, resumes the role of Jarrod, "Based on my intelligence gathering, the Jenn army are most likely going to attack tonight. If not this evening, after the moon rises. The last thing you want is for them to know where to find the crown."

Although this is technically a lie- Hyne has seen enough of a pattern with the Jenn attacks that it becomes an honest prediction.. and they can easily do it too with flying mounts and all of the guards concentrated in one place. As a result, he conveys an actual concern.

Persuasion: Rolling 1d20 + 1
( 8 ) + 1 = 9

He starts to head down to the end of the street. He keeps out of view once he reaches a corner and looks out in case Scorpion LeBlau is approaching.

Perception:

Stealth:
