Almost thinking about moving to Google drive or something, even though I like Dropbox and the way it mimics a regular file folder. But I need to have reliable syncs/uploads while working on game stuff.

Dropbox for Linux - completely broken?
I recently installed Mint on a refurb Thinkpad I picked up, and I've noticed about a week ago that the tray icon didn't work. So I tried removing it and reinstalling it... and now nothing works. Apparently this has been a known issue for at least a few weeks but Dropbox hasn't fixed it yet, and none of the workarounds worked for me either.

Actually (on Slackware GNU/Linux), I have the problem that the dropbox icon usually doesn't appear on my taskbar. I've never bothered to find out why, because I'm happy using the commandline interface (on the other hand, integration with your file browser is quite useful because it lets you right click on a file to get a public link: I don't have that either).
To use the commandline client, just open a terminal and type "dropbox" for help. "dropbox status" to see if it's running (and whether it's busy uploading) and "dropbox start" to start it if it isn't started.
