So I printed out GOLEMS and played it with my neighbor. My first note is that it was very complicated and it took us a while to actually mentally sort out all the rules. However, once we did there were no problems and we had quite a good time!

For the physical bits of the game, I'll begin by saying I understand the limitations and prototype nature, but I will comment on it regardless. I got out some D&D figures to act as the wizards and golems, because putting paper tiles on paper tiles was a pain. I also got some D&D 4.0e HP tokens for our health because it didn't explicitly state how to record that. On the other hand, I really liked the aesthetic of the 6x6 grid and the card layout. It felt alive and I like that.

The battles were overwhelming. The rules said to choose all options beforehand and then show them all at once, but we kind of biffed that up. We basically played rock, paper, scissors with the cards we had left in rounds until the turns were up. I will say it gave us more strategy, knowing what the other player had left to use rather than just picking an order beforehand and hoping it all works out for you.

We should have made a grid for the tiles because once they disappear it becomes a bit more vauge as to where exactly the spaces are. If all the tiles were glued to the tops of small blocks I think they'd fit together quite nicely. Maybe it'd be nice to add in 81 "currency" pieces and just flip over tiles when harvested. That might get a bit overwhelming with the game pieces though.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I look forward to playing it again with 4 people instead of two. I'm sure the dynamic of the game will be a lot different then. Thanks for the entertainment!

P.S. I loved T4r4D1ddl3. My friend and I played it for hours in a strange state of wonder, confusion, and fascination.

I'm blown away by the works you shared. I love your sketches; the line work is amazing.

You mention comics. There's a book by Scott McCloud called Making Comics (he's written a few others as well) that I found to be pretty useful in approaching the medium. It's written in comic book style and addresses how to integrate images and words to tell a story together (among plenty of other things). You could probably find some excerpts from it online.

I'll get back with more feedback on GOLEMS. I think adding more treasures would help balance the game because I found it way more valuable to harvest simply for the security. Although the treasures themselves felt really useful considering they didn't go away. I got No. 1 and it saved my life with the lifesteal.

EDIT: Your animations looked awesome too. I recognized the scene from Nichijou.

EDIT EDIT: Turns out Scott McCloud did a TED Talk. https://www.ted.com/talks/scott_mccloud ... n#t-978000

I'm a bit curious about the psychic fortune teller job. From what I heard, fortune tellers here in NYC know they're scamming people and don't really believe they're conjuring spirits or anything, I've also never been through a session or called them, but I know some of them promote free consultation on a client's first call, I always wonder if there's any teenagers that would troll them( I know I probably would if I were younger ). Also, from what little I know about tarot card readings, they don't necessarily predict the future as they do give different insight about what's currently going on in life.
I really don't know anything about fortune tellers myself. That whole chapter is basically a commentary on how stupid I used to think their advertising campaigns were back in the days when I'd watch late night television and see them come on with their smiling faces and perfect solutions to life. I always thought it would be funny if a caller doing a testimonial for the commercial would come on in a full body cast and say something like, "My Psychic Friend told me I'd get hit by a car this week, and wouldn't you know it?"--thumbs up--"I did! Thanks, Psychic Friend." I needed an outlet for that joke, and this story gave me one. ;) But based on what you describe, I think Greg pretty much knows the same thing about them as we do.

Keep reading. Greg's crazy life isn't over yet. And it has a good message at the end.

If anybody would like to listen to me talk about non-game-related things, I have been doing a podcast with my wife on the topic of Club De Cuervos

Club De Cuervos is Netflix's first spanish-language original series. It is a comedy-drama about two siblings who inherit their father's Fútbol team.

You might enjoy listening to this more if you have already watched the show, but regardless, here is the podcast info:

I had a good laughing fit upon listening to this but it had nothing to do with the podcast per say, it was just a weird coincidence. Funny enough I opened the itunes link and clicked on the top-most episode which itunes numbers as 1 but is actually your 8th episode. Within the first minute of the episode your wife comments, "...and who is Aitor for people who are joining the podcast in the eighth episode for some reason?" To which you remark, "Silly people."

I felt as though you as the speakers were actually acknowledging my presence as the silly person who sure enough would join in to the podcast on the eighth episode. It tripped me out big time, I laughed pretty hard.

I can't really get in to the podcast since I don't follow the show. You both have pleasant podcast host voices though which was nice.

This is an old thread, but I didn't want to make a new one because I knew this existed.

ANYWAY

I finished an album! :D It's been "almost done" for way too long now. I'm pulling the plug. It's dead, it's public.

It'd bring me great joy if you could take the time to listen. It's not super long, and if you love/hate anything about it, that knowledge would help me. I have tons of other music that's still in progress, but this is mostly stuff that's simple enough to not require master-level audio skills to make it sound the way I want. I feel very relieved to be able to post this.

Hey I took a listen to the album. It was very well done overall for not being professionally mastered. The guitar was very good in every song.

I liked the vocals, you have a unique voice. I do feel like it would be cool if there were backup vocals that could intertwine with yours (maybe a higher voice or a raspy voice) you might even consider backing up your vocals with your own voice in some parts to create a vocal doubling effect sort of like the Beatles do in many of their songs.

I know your probably limited to instruments but I also felt that a few of the songs, especially the last one would sound great with an instrument which has a long attack length (starts from 0 volume and slowly rises to full volume). I think adding an instrument like this could add more dynamic and suspense to the songs.

In the future you could also look into adding slightly different reverbs to the vocals and each instrument. This will make the track sound bigger.

Overall it was really good and there’s nothing I didn’t like about it.

Thank you! I appreciate the very specific commentary! I'll use that to help mix my other music. This is in some ways a first attempt at finalized music. That's why I stuck to mostly just guitar and vocals; it's what I'm comfortable with. Mastering is a rough time, and I didn't want to make it harder for myself.

I've been hoping to find someone who can sing for tracks, but I'm too shy to actually ask. Maybe someday. I'll also start looking at reverbs that way. I've been mostly learning things on my own because I'm too lazy to buy books and read.

I just finished an album recently and forgot about sharing it here until now. The album is free to download and includes an older Metal Gear Solid remix of mine that was featured on Game Chops awhile back!

Please give it a listen and let me know what you think! This type of music is a lot faster and different from what I normally make. I made about half of each song using code and then finished them off in a DAW to arrange and record in lead synthesizer sounds.

You can listen to the album here:

In addition I also recently made a little live session to test out a second-hand mixer I recently purchased. It's a bit of a slow jam but picks up a lot towards the end...
