Graffiti Goose

Post by RMZ »

So over the last few months Spoonweaver, myself and Glock & Mr8bit made a game about the one and only Louis the Goose. A character from Mr. Triangle's Adventure. This game is designed specifically for the app store, so the whole thing is completely touch based and features a fun puzzle paint system that Spoonweaver put together perfectly. Glock & Mr8bit made a radical soundtrack that has a lot of that 90's oldschool rap type feel with chiptune sounds over the beats to create the unique sound of the game. I'm planning to release this game on Slime Salad shortly, but for those interested in playing it in it's intended format, check it out on Google Play. And yes, we were nerdy enough to make a commercial using a hand puppet, because it doesn't get too much more retro than that!

And if you want to check out the soundtrack, you can download it/donate for it at the following link.

Our three teams came together and made a game that looks, plays and sounds fantastic and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that it's a game we're all equally proud of. If anyone has any suggestions for places for me to try to get it reviewed to increase exposure of the game, feel free to share. It'd be nice to take this game and put it and the OHR on the map!

I did all of the art and here I go forgetting to tease the game with screenshots! Thanks Spoonweaver for picking up my slack! I made this image in the zero hour and it has turned out to be my favorite piece of artwork for Graffiti Goose.

I think that a HOW TO PLAY button on the menu would be helpful, just a quick single page rundown of the scoring system and things you want to avoid. I completely and utterly failed my first attempt because I didn't understand the scoring system one bit. Got -100something points and was like "oh damn"

EDIT:
Also if there was a way to exit the game besides intentionally losing a round as fast as possible, that would be nice. The Menu and Back buttons don't seem to do anything.

Thanks for downloading and supporting the game Foxley!

There's another issue that I'm hoping to catch Spoonweaver on a good day about to program in. And another couple things he will likely say no to. But your "Rules" suggestion is a very solid one. Most people who have played this game die on the first try, then get far afterwards. So this might be great for newer, non-patient players. We don't want people requesting refunds after they start the game and claiming the game sucks because they didn't want to try again. I've encountered a lot of these types of players from Batman & Robin.

Yea... I disagree with any sort of help screens or tutorial. People tend to skip them. If there was anything that a person couldn't learn from that first game or two I could see putting that in, but actually I'd rather change the thing in the game that people didn't understand rather than making a tutorial or help screen.

As far as quitting out with the back button. Fair point, and easily done. RMZ, if you'd like to implement this simply change the menu-action script to homepage.

An intro screen that says "primary color = 1 point, secondary = 10, miss = -20" would be plenty and would be the same sort of thing plenty of arcade games have. The game's not confusing but knowing that painting outside of the lines essentially kills you is quick and easy to express.

It's a tradition.

You could even maybe add some small, brief messages in the black bordering of Level 0 with a few quick tips about things that will make you completely lose, namely painting outside the box and making brown color tiles. Just so the new player has something to go off of, but the experienced player can just ignore the messages as they're simply part of the background scenery.

If text box slices are possible, you could also have a brief text box come up when the player messes up on Level 0.

I'd prefer something like Wobbler is proposing. I always hate it when games have 'tips' during or between gameplay. It's my least favorite thing about the new Smash at the moment. State the rules (in this case, scoring). Let the player figure out the implications. Don't force any of this on the player while he/she is actually playing.

Another option would be to have a button reserved for showing the scoring system, which could double as a 'pause' button.

I've had this 'How to Play' comment a few times, too. Wobbler has the best solution. An exit option would rule, too. As is, I just use my Home button to exit.
