OHRRPGCE style graphics program

Post by Urkelbot666 »

Hi there, all. I was just wondering if anyone around here knew of a grpahics/paint/pixel art program that is most closely like the the one used in the OHRRPGCE.
I have looked around and tried some free paint programs that are supposed to be good for pixel art, many suggested on the wiki but none of them work identically to the CE graphics editor with which I have become so comfortable.
I guess what I would mainly be looking for would be a painter in which the user can move the cursor/paint tool with the arrow keys. and paint with the space bar. Most of the paint programs I have tried are still primarily mouse driven.
Any info on preferred painters or suggestions on amending the control preferences on other painters would be welcome :)
Thank you all very much.

Also, sorry if the posts or questions I ask here seem inane or stupid. I really do try to do things on my own before I come here to ask! I swear!

I know what you mean, the OHR editor is pretty great for making pixel art, but I suggest just using GIMP. It may be mouse driven, but it still has key shortcuts and it's probably the easiest program to convert files for the OHR with. You just have to get used to using it. It takes more time, because it's more complicated, but you'll be glad you did once you get used to it.

This has actually been asked many many times. So many people here like doing things with the keyboard, so it's too bad that the OHR's graphics editors are so primitive yet no one has ever mentioned to me any other spriting program that's as focus on keyboard controls.

Here's one of the previous threads (one of the more recent), which is probably a good place to start:

Thank you, I apologize for posting a topic that has been addressed several times already. I suppose at some point I'll have to give up my stubbornness and actually learn to use GIMP and other applications I have to pixel art ;)

Keyboard support for a pixel art program seems like such an obvious option to me, I'm surprised it isn't more common.

I tried to figure something out using the "Mouse Keys" settings in windows, but It was tedious, and I still could figure out how to click without dragging.

Anyhow, thank again! :)

Every time this comes up I hope someone will mention something I haven't heard before. I think that there must be modern pixel art programs out there which are ports of or based on programs from the Commodore, Amiga, etc, era, which still have good keyboard support. GrafX2 is actually one such program, except its keyboard support isn't quite a complete replacement for the mouse.
