What's up with the Wii U?

Talk about things that are not making games here. But you should also make games!

What's up with the Wii U?

Post by JimLuc T Kirkard »

So I'm a fan of any system that can be modded. It was my main reason for buying the PSP back in the day and the Wii a year ago. With the Wii I have a slime ton of SNES and NES games, etc. all on a thumb drive. Well, I was just looking at the Wii U, and I don't understand why they swapped the remote so drastically. Wasn't the controller and nunchuck a big selling point for the Wii? This one just looks like a bulky, awkward controller with a screen on it. I are confus

Motion controls were a fad and had fallen out of popularity a few years after the Wii launched. They tried something new. It didn't really work out the way they expected it to. It's pretty comfortable though.

It just looks like it would feel weird having the joysticks above the buttons. I only have a few actual Wii ISOs and they don't have a lot of motion to them, so I guess it hasn't really gotten old for me yet.

I kind of agree with you, and I kind of don't. I'm not the kind of person who would stoop low enough to pirate low-budget indie games made by developers like us, but I must admit that I have no problem with stealing software from some giant faceless corporate entity with enough cash to fill an Olympic swimming pool. Namely *cough! cough!* Sony *HAACCKK!*. Since Nintendo is kind of "Beached Whaling" right now though, I'm not sure about stealing their isos.

No actually it's terrible regardless of who you're stealing from, especially from people posting in a creative community. Have some respect for artists.

I mean seriously, Sony's your example of Generic Rich Faceless Corporation? They fund and develop tons of weird, quirky games with more originality than pretty much anyone here. No one here is making a Journey or a Hohokum or a Loco Roco. The invest in and promote stuff like Guacamelee and Octodad. There are actual, talented people working there that are doing their best to promote their visions whether you like the games or not.

Don't pirate games, and especially don't make up some moral nonsense justification for why it's ok if you do.

Though I'm not super on board with his, "Sony is more original than OHR" stance, I agree with Surlaw.

I'm not stranger to bootlegging, but I'm under no illusion that it's wrong. The way I see things like this the human brain can justify anything. People don't like being evil or wrong and so their brain fixes that by somehow convincing itself that what they are doing is fine. Just because we do something doesn't make it ok.

Anyways, this thread should be closed or something. Discussing isos, roms and such can quickly escalate to illegal link posting. Which could actually end up getting Mogri in trouble according to how many countries handle their laws these days.

If you want to discuss game bootlegging, make your own forum or head to one of the many irc channels that already exist for that sort of thing.

I agree.

I think if you dislike a company, it is better to avoid their products completely rather than pirating them.

I'm sorry that I sometimes pirate a game or two. I honestly do not have the cash to purchase either the game or the system to play it on, and sometimes just really want to play one of these, as The Wobbler put it, weird, quirky games. I mean seriously, the only reason I have my crappy, low-end laptop is out of the goodwill of my neighbors. Otherwise, my most advanced piece of technology would still be my 6 year old DSi.

Yeah, you're right. This thread is getting slimy...

Here's the thing: No one has a right to be entertained. I get *really* tired of hearing this argument that "Well, I wasn't gonna buy the game anyway, so I wasn't really stealing anything, 'cause they weren't gonna get my money anyway". That's sleazy as hell. All of us want lots of things on a daily basis, but that doesn't excuse us to just take it and damn the consequences. If you were starving to death and you stole a loaf of bread, you'd at least be worthy of sympathy. Stealing games because you're bored is so pathetic there oughta be a new word for it.

You know what you should try? Saving! A dollar here or a dollar there can make a big difference. And sure, an emergency or something might pop up and clear you out, but start over if you have to. It's worth it to earn something, worth it to reward the people who do great work to keep us entertained. Keep them from having to steal loaves of bread.
