Mission accomplished

Mogri, is the price still S$8000?
Sure, why not.

Most- and least-reviewed gamelist views are now available. As mentioned previously, only the official Slime Salad theme will receive UI updates, so while you can access the views in the other themes, the controls to get there will not appear.

Oh! I have a related request. A way to see which games I've rated, and preferably what those ratings were. Currently I don't know which games I should rate (I'm sure there are several games I've rated several times and others I assume I have, but haven't), and can't possibly keep ratings made years apart consistent. (Assigning numerical scores is pretty useless with no reference scale, but I can make decisions about which games I liked better than others. So I may wish to change previous ratings for consistency.)
Even just showing what my previous rating was on the game page would be a good step. Indicating on the game list pages which games I've rated would be quite helpful. A page listing all the games I've rated and what those rating were may be ideal.

Another request: allow embedding videos.

Youtube supports two styles of embeds: using an <iframe> (either html5 or flash, according to the browser) or using an <object> (flash). However, SS doesn't allow the <iframe> tag. And if you click the 'embed' button on a video, you're given only the iframe embed, there's no flash option.

However, you can still create flash youtube embeds on SS today, by building the HTML yourself. Just paste this code, and change both the URLs to the correct one. Make sure both start with "https://". Untick "Disable HTML in this post" when you make your post.

Code: Select all

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="https&#58;//www.youtube.com/v/TND_sT5GXZ4"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https&#58;//www.youtube.com/v/TND_sT5GXZ4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="385" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Unfortunately, all existing youtube videos embedded on SS no longer work, since SS switched to https!! Oops!
I discovered that existing embeds can be fixed by changing the "http" to "https" if the URL is of the form http://www.youtube.com/v/TND_sT5GXZ4, but it doesn't work for URLs of the form http://www.youtube.com/p/85380983E180136D (like the video posted here). Apparently Google decided to break all those links. Seriously? Bad Google >:(

Would there be a remote possibility of doing a search/replace from "http://www.youtube.com/v/" to "https://www.youtube.com/v/" on all forum posts? There might be some other URLs broken too.

(Also, it turns out that Chrome autoconverts flash youtube embeds to iframe ones. I don't know whether this gets around the http-embed-on-https-page problem too.)

Could we see new poll types that allow the casting of more than 1 vote?
And could we also display poll results in different formats, such as pie charts? I like pies.

EDIT:

How about allowing submitted games to display their icon in the thread title, or in the gameslist?
Might make browsing the gameslist easier.

Could we pretty please have some way of ordering our attachments, or changing their display options?
It would be handy to re-arrange attachments, for when you want images to be presented in a specific order.
Maybe if we could hide them behind a spoiler, or make them expandable/hidable?

Attachments were originally available only as a way of uploading your game and its screenshots. Putting them inline in posts was introduced later as a bit of a hack (albeit one that was intended by the person who designed the extension).

The attachment interface is less than great, but fixing it is much more trouble than it's worth. I would rather convert the forums to a better platform that had native attachment support: the level of effort would be comparable, and I would get way more out of it.

As for the other requests that I apparently missed:

Poll options: See previous answer.
Gamelist thumbnail: This is a good idea in theory, but about half of the games on the list have no screenshot (a perennial source of vexation for me).
YouTube support: I would be most likely to add support for YouTube in the form of a bbCode tag (e.g. [yt]here[/yt]). S$8000

I can understand you not wanting to enable iframe. I'm surprised everyone else seems to.

Since Spoonweaver paid for youtube support I guess I owe him S$8000 for a feature of his choice (yes! lets pool funds and corner the market!)

[yt]dQw4w9WgXcQ[/yt]

YouTube embeds are now live (again). To embed a video:

Code: Select all

&#91;yt&#93;Video ID here&#91;/yt&#93;
There is not a button on the toolbar for this; you will have to hand-type it. Sorry (not sorry).

The tag will accept either the video ID (e.g. dQw4w9WgXcQ) or the full URL to the video, whether it's in youtube.com or youtu.be format, as long as the ID is at the end of the URL. (This means that if you are watching a video as part of a playlist, you will need to edit the URL instead of pasting it in raw.)

Aside: Because the current YT embed code uses iframes, the size of the resulting video is fixed across devices. This is annoying. I could do some workarounds, but you don't pay me enough for that sort of thing.

Next: dice. I'm still deciding how to implement this. It is a tricky feature in that you want the dice results to be permanent, so being able to edit/delete your post for different rolls is undesirable.

Dice are here, hosted by your friend and mine, the honorable Judge Slimehold.

To roll some dice, post a dice expression in {{curly braces}}. You can put other things into the braces as well, but most special characters will cause your roll to be ignored.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE DICE:
  • Only the initial post matters. Editing dice expressions into a post will not do anything. Editing dice expressions out of a post is in poor taste.
  • Deleting the post will not delete the associated rolls. Slimehold's post will remain there for everyone to see.
  • You can put basically whatever you want into the dice expression. Things that are not dice- or arithmetic-related will be reported in the dice roll but excluded in the calculation. So I can, for instance, say {{persuasion attempt 1d20 + skill rank 5 + cha mod 2}}.
  • The roller will try its very best to interpret your roll. If you posted something that is not a valid expression, such as {{2d6 1d2}} (as opposed to {{2d6 + 1d2}}), you will see the values of the dice that were rolled, but the roller will not evaluate the expression.
  • I have not implemented fancy dice features like "5d6 drop 2" or exploding dice. If there is demand, I can put a bounty on them.
  • If you start throwing dice everywhere, I will restrict the roller to General Discussion/Roleplaying.
