Longbow (Sidescroller / Shooter project)

Post by Spazman »

Been a while since I've posted anything at all on here and sadly it isn't OHR stuff this time, either. ;w;

A buddy of mine and I have been working just about non-stop for the past week on a little sidescroller / shooter game project, which we'd wanted to play / look like something in the vein of stuff like Contra / Metal Slug / Etc. :
http://www.kongregate.com/games/smoke_t ... am-version

As it stands now, the game is basically a somewhat-playable prototype, with all-original graphics in it (most of them drawn by me, some of them by him.)

We're working on an OST for it, but so far only the game-intro and first level song are original, kinda bearing inspiration from the likes of Contra /Super C.

We're still working on it right now and we plan to do a MUCH bigger update on this in due time, but there is only so much three guys can do.

What we need, though, is some good feedback on where to go from here. We plan to expand the levels, no question about that. Sound-replacement is also something we're looking towards as well.

Let us know on this thread about opinions / suggestions regarding this : >

Ah, Unity. Looks like I cannot play it. Unity games can be packaged for Linux, and Unity games packaged for Windows work great on Linux with Wine, but the Unity Web Player doesn't work at all on Linux :(

Can you post some screenshots?

I'm in the same boat as James as I don't have a working Windows installation (even my VMs died!), but wow, those graphics are very nice!

(The tail rotor on the helicopter seems to be missing though, and the main rotor looks rather small)

But I wonder whether you wouldn't be better off with a larger hero sprite; it looks pretty teeny. I've played sidescrollers with such small heroes before and it can definitely work, it just gives the game a different feel.

Haha! Those screenshots look cool. Do you have a gameplay video?

Since you are making this with Unity, are there any plans to do an OUYA port? I understand porting Unity games to OUYA is relatively easy.

I like how you used index patterning for the shading, my current profile picture uses a similar effect. I think a diffused pattern would look neat too.
