Perhaps this may not be what most consider music but I built a small synth/arpeggiator for one of my classes if anyone wants to see a demonstration.

Haha yeah our professor actually mentioned that clock-making-kid to us awhile back. I ended up bring my project to school in a box to avoid suspicion. Some other students made enclosures for their projects but most of us didn't have time to do that sort of thing.Gizmog wrote:I can't believe you take it to a school though, that's *WAY* more intimidating than that home-made clock some dork put together.

I wrote a few new themes. Both of these are fight themes
https://soundcloud.com/seffylocks/baring-fangs
- This theme is for a battle where an innocent character is forced to reveal its claws for the first time.
https://soundcloud.com/seffylocks/piercing-reflections
- This is one that I've had in my head for a while. It's for a battle where the main character has to prove that he's worthy of wielding some legendary weapon.

Man, Piercing Reflections really has some tasty melody and harmony interactions around 1:30. The whole thing is also very inspiring. Although, for a battle theme it seems a bit light-hearted. I assume that the tone of this battle is perhaps optimistic, such that the hero is fighting a righteous opponent rather than a villainous one? I would not describe is as intense, so if you're looking to induce a sense of urgency or tension, I think it may work a bit against that.
Baring Fangs, on the other hand, has a pretty sinister opening with that saxophone line. This may just be me, but the tempo feels a bit slow for a battle theme. I can't tell, though, because in the context of a game, a player might not need it. I don't have enough experience with battle music to tell, but I think it's worth looking at.
Great songs, both of them. I always love your work.

Wow @RMSephy, I love both of these! I especially love the mood you set with Baring Fangs. Mmm that piano bass line, that beat, and the pseudo-middle eastern scale were all so good together. What DAW are you using? These both have a very crisp sound to them.

Seeing how your head was bobbing up and down made me laugh at first, but then I had to listen with the tab deselected to avoid motion sickness ;)

@Bob
Heh, sorry about that I couldn't help it. Perhaps head mounted camera's and head bobbing tunes don't go too well together. It's tricky to do a stationary setup that will capture what I'm doing though. I'll just try to move around in a smoother fashion next time haha.

That was great, I hadn't see a first-person PoV video like that before. It's definitely more interesting than a stationary camera. But I also started to feel sick by the end of it due to the bobbing, it's just about subsided now..
I admit I often had little understanding of how the things you were doing were affecting the music. You've got quite a bit of equipment there. What does that touchscreen interface do, are X and Y position mapped to something?

The touchscreen thing is called a Kaoss Pad. It's basically an FX unit. It allows me to choose an effect to apply to the incoming sound and the XY pad controls the parameters of the effect. This device also functions looping device so I can record loops of the incoming sounds. I was mainly using the Kaoss Pad for looping my synths and had a filter effect that I only really utilized at the end of the video. The Kaoss Pad also has two inputs and a switch to select which input is being received so I used this functionality so I could switch between which synth was playing (thus I could play the synth lead over top of the looped synth).TMC wrote:What does that touchscreen interface do, are X and Y position mapped to something?

Not as good this time. I'm still experimenting with this setup.
