YOU be the judge

Post by Mogri »

Do you want to be a judge in Super Penguin Chef's cooking contests? Now you can! If you are interested, I will need the following stuff:

- One 20x20 down-facing walkabout sprite, using solid colors and a black outline. (Please use a colored background; this makes it easier to import.) Upload it as a PNG or BMP, please! It will be completely unusable otherwise.

- Food preferences. For example, "I like spicy food, but I hate chocolate and I'm allergic to milk." These do not need to be your actual food preferences. You can be creative here.

- [Optional] Dialogue that you would like your judge to say. There is a strong chance that I will not use this. I have not decided to what extent each judge will have customized dialogue.

You do not have to submit yourself as a judge. You can submit a character or avatar or similar. Please do not submit a character from an unpublished game. Please do not submit a character from someone else's game without getting that person's permission. Please use the power of love, friendship, and foodstuffs responsibly.

Astroman:
I prefer foods high in carbohydrates, sugars and fats, as they provide me the highest energy output. I try to avoid thin, watery foods like broth or soup as they over-cool my digestive systems. My favorite food is Cheez-its, Mozerella if you have it.

Optional dialogue!

Dumps

Loves slimy food, stuff with a strong smell. His nose is HUGE. He hates anything bland or dry.

He's actually me. A representation of me.

Not a character from my game, but rather an amalgamation of my avatar and The Emperor, a megalomaniac persona I sometimes write articles as elsewhere on the web.

FUN FACT!: Photobucket converts .bmps because they are, quote, "inappropriate for the internet."

Considering what's on the internet, I don't think they're qualified to make that claim.

Palate and Palette are different words!

A CHALLENGER APPROACHES

I don't know what inspired me to drop what I was doing and illustrate this, but there you go. Hold onto this one, Surlaw, I want it in the art section of the first Hamsterspeak issue of 20XX.
Barth wrote:Finally, a place that can truly cater to a gourmet palate such as mine. I'm sick to death of stale bread and jerky provisions. That means I utterly loathe anything that's salty or dry! I also retch at the mere smell of spicy dishes, so keep them at least three rooms away from wherever I'll be sitting, thank you.
If you want to cater to my tastes, then you must know that the true art of flavour flourishes with a savory sensation that lasts a good while after a dish has graced one's tongue. A sophisticated diner must also be able to appreciate bitter and tart sensations where they can. An entrée or beverage with all three of these qualities is golden to me; I would relish these sublime flavours all evening with a cool glass of eiswein.

A gentelmage always removes his robes before dining.
Actually, I was just indecisive on this one. He looks pretty good in blue with a wine cup, but folks might not recognize him without those bright red magic robes. Anyway, Mogri, choose whichever one works better for you. Maybe you'll end up with an abundance of blue-colored judges and need something different to balance the palette.

EDIT: Uh, I just realized, I have no idea what kind of restaurant Super Penguin Chef takes place in. What if this isn't a gourmet, five-star, ultra deluxe restaurant at all, and is just some greasy neighborhood diner? That would be hilarious! I can't wait to see what kind of dialogue you write for these disparate judges, Mogri!

The judges don't actually visit the restaurant, and your illustration is a fairly accurate depiction of the contest hall.

How about now?
Mogri, you need any more judges? I feel like we all kind of left this thread hanging.

Please, ease off on the presentation, please. I've had enough fancy and upper-class fare to last me a long time.
But don't misinterpret that as me wanting boring, everyday food either - if I wanted traditional fare of either sort I wouldn't have to resort to trawling cooking contests. Get me something exotic! Spicy, dry, salty, sweet - just give me something that won't bore me to tears.
