LINK TO COMPETITION
On Tuesday the 1st of May 2012, at 0:00am GMT, you will have three months to make an RPG (see Rules for details).
You must then submit your RPG by Wednesday the 1st of August 2012, at 0:00am GMT, after which the winners will be decided.
This will be the grand finale of Competition Four Digits 2011/2012, a competition three times longer than any other in the year!

RULES:
1. The aim of the competition is to develop entirely your own game within the time limit (1st May - 1st August). You MUST submit your final game before the 1st of August 2012. You will have to keep up to date with my blog posts to find out how to submit your final game.
2. You MUST have stated you are going to enter before the 1st of May 2012.
3. You MUST NOT include anything in the game that you don't have full permission to use or significant amounts of game content that you had already made prior to the competition.
4. Your final game MUST have "RPG elements", specifically relating to the gameplay (eg anything such as experience points, inventories, quests, turn-based combat, etc. Fantasy themes and long storylines are common in RPGs, but not related to the gameplay).
5. There are no programming language/game engine restrictions except that the game MUST run on Windows 7 and MUST NOT require additional software installation.
6. Don't be a cheater.
7. ONE entry per person, maximum team of FOUR.
8. I reserve the right to update or otherwise change the rules and to disqualify any entrant who breaks the rules.

If anyone is planning on entering hot ohr 2 action, I'd love to see them enter this as well. Big prizes, and a chance to REPRESENT.

They also had their own ridiculous contest, (the "Sixty Fool Digits" link.) 7 games entered. The winning game is actually kind of fun.

Would make for a cool game to knock off in the ohr, (looking at Spoonweaver~)

HotOHR is short for "Heart of the OHRRPGCE" which is a contest that we did a couple years ago, and that we are doing again this year. The timeframe overlaps with your contest, and I think the rules will be compatible, so some people might want to enter both contests with the same game.

Interesting. I'm not surprised you have something similar, every single community seems to have their own contests these days. "RPG" is kind of a one-off theme for us. Our themes tend to be more categorical than Ludum Dare-type themes.

By the way the idea behind Sixty Fools Digits is that you are given names from the random game name generator, here:

We did a contest with the random name generator once. It didn't work out so well.

I don't think it was enforced.

"Crystal Chasers" was a randomly generated name, by the way.

Another thing: I really like the prizes for your next HotOHR. Offering bugfixes and features suggestions to the site is genius. I'm going to have to inquire about doing that at 64digits.

This compo sounds rad and I would like to enter. Is anyone else interested in teaming up?

Toast, the rules mention you can't use "significant amounts of game content you had already made prior to the competition." What qualifies here? To be specific, I would consider using the following:

- Graphical assets that I have made but not used in any game
- Music that I composed

Three months is a short timespan to put out a game with a fresh soundtrack, so I'd love to recycle where possible.

Also, I have read the rules and will be making my official "intent to enter" post on the actual site :)

Basically I've been saying that you can reuse some art/music, but the majority needs to be fresh, to ensure you're not just remaking an unfinished game.

I'm thinking of entering this, does anyone want to art for me? I'm going to being making a fairly simple rpg so you might not have to art much.
