Holy Saint Akbar al-Akbar takes point in an effort to continue pretending to know what he's doing.

Beardthar lifts Rock-Head up on his shoulders, and cheerfully follows Akbar and Tim-Tim. As he walks, Beardthar keeps alert, wanting to notice anything interesting, and to admire the beauty of the day (if he can find any such beauty).

Peanut begins walking since everyone else is, but can't help but feel they're ill prepared somehow.

Your party leaves the inn and sets of for the temple. For the most part, the road to the southern gate is uneventful save for a few guttersnipes begging the occasional copper piece. At the gate, you are stopped by one of the guards but are soon let through when he recognizes you.

The land outside the city walls is mostly clear, though a couple hours of miles or so south you see the forest you'll soon be entering. In the distance, farther south, are the mountains where the pass to the temple lies. The walk towards the forest goes by without incident.

Survival (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 4 + 0 + 1 = 5
    Beardthar: 14 + 4 + 3 = 21
    Peanut: 11 + 5 + 1 = 17
    Spittle: 5 + 0 + 0 = 5
    Tim-Tim: 3 + 0 + 3 = 6
A few more hours of walking soon sees the trees around you thicken and grow in density. You can no longer see past the forest, and you can only just tell your direction by the fast-setting sun. You estimate that you have only another hour of daylight left, and you wonder if it might be a good idea to set up camp for the day rather than continuing the trek.

Knowledge (Nature) (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
  • Akbar: 8 + 0 + -1 = 7 Fail
    Beardthar: 16 + 6 + 1 = 23 Success
    Peanut: 2 + 5 + 2 = 9 Fail
    Spittle: 17 + 0 + 1 = 18 Success
    Tim-Tim: 13 + 0 + 1 = 14 Fail
For a large forest, this area seems rather quiet. Just an hour back, the forest was alive with sound. Granted, it's not exactly dead quiet, but you would have expected to hear more of nature than you're hearing now.

Spot (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 19 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 21 Success
    Beardthar: 4 + 5 + 3 = 12 Fail
    Peanut: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Fail
    Spittle: 3 + 0 + 0 = 3 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 6 + 0 + 3 = 9 Fail
You notice some recently broken small trees and low branches. As if a rather large, and rather strong, animal passed through here recently.

Peanut is already starting to feel tired, and he yawns and stretches as his feet slow down their movements. Being a nature dweller himself, he does notice the vast silence, but mistakenly interprets it as nothing dangerous as being around and gets too confident in himself, therefore doesn't make mention of it.

Beardthar listens hard. The forest sounds strange to him. The birds and animals are being unusually quiet, and he wonders why.

"Well, Brother Beardthar, I understand you're something of a wilderness expert. What do you have in mind?"

Peanut scoffs, "I'm also something of a wilderness expert..." Feeling unappreciated of his upbringing.

He then chimes in, "There aren't a lot of places in the forest that are truly safe, and I feel uneasy about this whole thing, we could be watched at this very moment!" He then looks around at the party, "We could take turns on watch.. Like my kin did back at home every night at our village."

Spittle groggily listens to the conversation, almost asleep standing in the quiet splendor of the woods.
Spittle wrote:..there's an inn, about a day away from here.. there's some reason I didn't suggest we go there earlier... just can't remember. Maybe in the morning...
He's clearly in no shape for the first watch.

Spot (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 9 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 11 Fail
    Beardthar: 17 + 5 + 3 = 25 Success
    Peanut: 20 + 5 + 1 = 26 Success
    Spittle: 9 + 0 + 0 = 9 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 12 + 0 + 3 = 15 Fail
There does indeed seem to be something watching you. Just off past the trees, you noticed something moving, but as soon as you turned to focus on it, it was no longer there.

Tim-Tim assuming this is the place they'll be bunking for the night, decides to tie the mule to a nearby tree. Then he wakes up his Toad and tell the toad to keep an eye out while he rests.

Peanut's eyes flicker, "Shh... Someone or something's here." He immediately pulls out his bow and reaches for an arrow.

(Did Peanut get an idea on what that something might've looked like?)

Peanut & Beardthar
You're not sure, but it seemed pretty big. At the very least, seven feet tall. Could have been a troll, or an ogre, but you suppose if it were either, it would have attacked by now. It did seemed rather stooped and hunched, so it might be even bigger than seven feet.

"I think it was a person!" he points out in a hushed voice, implying it could have something to do with anyone that would want to back stab them. Plus, anybody is tall for him.

Beardthar calls out in a voice that is not too soft and not too loud
Beardthar wrote:If you are a friend, then show yourself!
And then to the others
Beardthar wrote:And if it doesn't show itself, then we might be in a bit of trouble...
