SDHawk & Co., Day 3

Had high hopes for today. After hours of hanging curtains and cleaning, Hawk suggested we rethink the game. Hours spent hemming and hawing resulted in a few minor cuts. Feel like the the design is rather more up in the air now though; I don't know what we'll end up with. Started work at 9:30pm. Finally got a few tiles done; pleased with quality, not quantity. Yet more hours spent chasing bugs in every possible thing.

Circles drawn: 1/2
Bugs encountered in: my scripts, my utilities, Custom, Game, gfx_directx, GrafX2

-----

Hey Spoonweaver, when exactly is the deadline? I see I'll be working till the last minute.

The due date is the 8th. Meaning the 9th would be late. However, because of time differences and such, games submitted up till noon EST time on the 9th will still be considered on time. Anything submitted after that will be late.

I haven't really thought of what to do with late entries. I'm giving a lot of leeway so just try not to be late.

SDHawk & TheMadCactus, Day 4

Day 4 is the most important part of the week, because halfway through it marks the halfway point. From here on in, there is only less time than what has come before. As such I began to take things seriously despite waking up to another TMC data loss.

-Implemented treasure system
-Added items on the floor
-Constrained items to one per slot
-Added fire systems
-Added water+bottle systems
-Added plant systems
-Added burnable stuff

Tomorrow I hope to work on refining the treasure system and implementing enemy patterns + line of sight.

Giz and Sephy - Day 3

Got a good deal done today. Finished scripting the rhythm game and made a good half of the track for it. Wrote a song for a sort-of boss fight. Also drew a placeholder map for the first two areas.

And egads. Even though I say Day 3, this is actually at the end of Day 4, since I really didn't count Thursday as a day. Time is running short, and I'm running behind. Worst comes to worse, I'll cut one of the chapters.

Day 3 Addendum

There was a powercut right before I was about to save what I was drawing and send it off to Hawk. At least the Sun had risen already so I didn't stub any toes.

SDHawk Productions, Day 4

Today was a short day because I had lots of other stuff to do. Actually, I'm lying, I never got around to that other stuff. Discovered that GrafX2 has an autosaving feature, so I lost nothing. Don't tell Hawk, it'll make my output look even worse. Drew tiles & sprites, wrote scripts, fought for a long time with a GrafX2 palette corruption bug on importing a BMP and also an OHR palette corruption bug on importing a BMP. Asdfasdfas. Finally merged my changes with Hawk's and sent them back for the first time since day 1, that ought to panic him.

Map layers: 6
Protagonist's handbag: purple
games submitted up till noon EST time on the 9th will still be considered on time
That's ~8 1/2 days, I think? Unless you meant to say the 8th. Either way, we'll try hard not to abuse the leeway.

TMC & SDHawk Day 5

Today was, in a word, hubris. Added beds, sleeping, and fire kits. This wasn't remotely as much as I wanted to do. Did discuss a better way to do some stuff with TMC. Also got to see some of the stuff TMC has been up to today. That TMC, what a card.

Giz and Sephy, Day 5?

Haven't been posting as much as I should about this thing. I had intended to get Sephy up to date on what I'd done so far and figure out what else he needed, but I was too tired and mostly just spent time reworking our protagonist's walkabout, which I've finally promoted from "Bad" to "Okay".

I think tomorrow I'm really going to show Sephy what I've got so far and try and break the ice a little bit more. I feel like we're both being kind of bashful and I don't want Sephy to be afraid to ask me to do my fair share, especially since so far I've been slackin and he's been putting a game together.

Not very much time left and I don't have a big sense of urgency. That needs to change.

SDHawk & SDHawk, Day 5

Today was not the miracle of productivity I had hoped for. Still in non-contest mode. I guess it wasn't awful, considering I'm going to bed about 6 hours earlier than previous days. Time consuming loose ends like camera tweaking, and some scripting, but almost none of the badly needed tiles or sprites. Unlike Hawk, I'm trying to keep the game more of a mystery. It's great to have two good scripters in the team (I would trust hardly anyone else with my script preprocessor thing) but I think he's getting horribly bored with all the dull scripting tasks he took on. In contrast, drawing graphics is fun! Not nearly as fun as procrastination though.

Tiles drawn: 6
Protagonist's handbag: did not pass audience test :(

EDIT: Did not go to bed early after all. Will sleep all of tomorrow. Drew ~5 more tiles!

Giz and Seffy - Day 5

Scripted time stop mechanics, which temporarily stops any ongoing timers and lets the player walk through NPCs without activating them. And then I spent the rest of the day playing League of Legends, so I probably need a better sense of urgency too. :(

When I'm not making a game, I often feel overwhelmed by all the things I have to do and end up not wanting to do anything. But when I actually get to work on it, a lot of things turn out to be a lot simpler than they seemed, which makes me feel like I have more time than I actually have and make me more inclined to slack off. It's a vicious cycle.

Spoonmaster Journal 3:

Having completed the bulk of the game, the Master K and Spoonweaver team sits back and begins playtesting, to find all those little bugs that seem to slip into contest entry games. I'm personally really proud of the game me and master K made. Master K was really cool to work with and I'm glad I had this chance. I hope you all like the game we made. We'll most likely be posting either tomorrow or the day after.

SDHawk & TMC, Day 6

Entered Contest Mode. Got to work (I can put my name back on the game now). Hawk was fed up with me drawing graphics (see above), so I mostly stuck to scripting today. Snuck in a tileset when he wasn't looking. I think we'll end up with something reasonably complete, but the balance won't be fine-tuned. Platformer physics are delicate.

EDIT: I take it all back; we're doomed.

Master K And Spoonweaver, Log Four

The game has come along so well. I'm proud to be able to finally have a complete game to my name. Spoonweaver was a tremendous help, with his scripting, and finishing off all the items and descriptions. I did mainly the graphics and such of the game, as well as creating the items. By the end of the project, I ran out of steam and Spoon finished it off. Now we sit and casually play test. I have yet to beat my own game. Yeah, it's that hard.

Secret messages for the win. :kamina:

EDIT: Just beat the game. I really like the ending Spoonweaver created.
