The Say It Ain't So Contest - Complete

Post by JSH357 »

Well, time's up. Our four entries are in.

(DISCLAIMER: All of these games (to my knowledge) contain some adult content. Don't download if you're under the age of 18 or don't want to see it)

RMSephy's "Thrust Porn:"
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22483930/Thrust-porn.zip
Judge nominations: Giz/Charbile/JSH

Nathan Karr's "NO EAT:"
http://castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=1048
Judge nominations: Charbile/Spoonweaver/JSH

Fenrir-Lunaris's "RAEP Dungeon:"
http://db.tt/eoftSv9M
Judge nominations: Eggie, Nathan, Charbile

SDHawk & The Giz's "Transylvania Girls:"
http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewgame.php?t=4712
Judge nominations: JSH, Spoonweaver, Wiz

The lucky judges for the contest are..
CHARBILE
JSH
SPOONWEAVER

Now then, judges. Let's not forget that the prizes were:
FIRST PLACE: I will make a dark and gritty game based on your entry, details pending.

SECOND PLACE: I will draw you a very special comic book of your entry and send it to your place. The value of this is estimated to be in the millions.

THIRD PLACE: I will send you a stack of coupons to various fast food
restaurants that currently reside in my wallet. Friendly's, BK, MCDonald's. I got it all, folks. *
*All prizes valid only before the expiration dates of said coupons
And the rules were:
-You have from October 3rd to October 31st to produce the entirety of your game.
-All audio must be homemade. Other ripped content is fine.
-Any size of team is allowed. Personally I recommend getting Charbile on board or something.
-Your game MUST contain (legal) pornographic content. Ideally it should be the primary focus of the game rather than a side quest or something, but it has gotta be in there. Obviously, you shouldn't enter this contest unless you are 18 years of age or older.
However, I never mentioned any kind of details about the judging process and nobody bothered to ask. Well, you snooze you lose.

- ONLY the three judges can rank the games {Very simply, from best to worst}, and they must write full paragraphs explaining their reasoning. They may judge the games on whatever merits they choose, even if those fall outside of the contest rules. However...
- Other users (who care, including the game creators and judges) are free to post their thoughts and rebut the judges' opinions. If they do this, any judges that disagree with the rebuttals must respond to any criticisms with valid backups of their claims. Each rebuttal must contain at least one statement about one of the game creators' or judges' character(s). Judges may edit their rankings in response at any time.
- All game creators MUST quote a judge's writings and say they approve of the rankings for three out of four games. In short, they must judge the judging.

If at any point all judging is completed, the prizes will be awarded. That said, see the disclaimer in the Contest Rules. I got a new coupon the other day. It expires on November 27th. Get cracking.

This is a good judging system, perfect for the level of turnout. I hope I won't have to exercise my right to rebuttal (So do your homework, judges. There's four pretty good games on display here, and you're going to have to do a lot of work to convince me that any one is better than another) but on the off chance I do, let me understand the rules.

Suppose that in JSH's opinion "Duck 2: BJs for MJ" is the best entry. I disagree. If I were to rebut him and obey the rules would I:

A) Say something about one of JSH' characters, ie; Murlor is a loser who will never have sack like Dayang.

or

B) Say something about JSH's character, ie; Can we really listen to JSH's opinion about what's sexy? The man took a duck to his senior prom!

The rules are intentionally vague to support both conclusions

Is it too late for an extension? If it is, I'll likely skip the ohr crowd for what I've been working on for the past few days. Just getting this feeling like it would be a bad idea to release a game where

you run a sex slave house of 60 ohr users

and that maybe you guys wouldn't like it. Don't want to troll or anything.

Out of being a bro to everyone who entered, I will judge regardless.

Haha, ok. Let's play this coy game.

Dear Charbile, Spoon, and JSH,

Will you accept my late game of friendship into the contest if I can complete it in the next couple days?

I M O it's up to the other contestants as to whether or not you should be allowed to enter. If they are all ok with it, then I am. If one of them is not, then I am not.

I'm all for extending the release window so as to near us closer to the prize expiration date. Game on, Charbile.

In 4th place, I have RMSephy's "Thrust Porn"

This game didn't really have a lot to offer. Simple games can be amazing and even become some of the most popular online games ever. But the key to making a simple game great is making the small amount of things you have going on perfect. This was not the case here. The collision detection was terrible, the controls were laggy and the overall goal was questionable.

The porn in the game and arguably the only graphic seems to be ripped, which makes the game lose points in my opinion. The only music/sound effect was a very annoying noise made every time you earned points. Overall, I just didn't find this game to be any fun at all.

In 3rd place, I have Fenrir-Lunaris's "RAEP Dungeon"

Image

As with all of Fenrir's games, the graphics in this game were top notch. Some of the most refined graphics in the whole contest wee in this game. ( This includes the ripped graphic in Sephy's entry ) Graphics are very important when you're making the kind of game that this contest was calling for, but they aren't everything.
The fact that this game was so incomplete is what landed it in 3rd place. As disturbing as some of the enemies and overall plot might have been, I still would have liked to see more. There's an overabundance of unfinished games in the OHR community and I don't plan to reward someone for adding another.
The gameplay was very basic in this game. Which isn't terrible, but after seeing what the other games in the contest had to offer, I found myself bored with this title. The ripped music wasn't doing this game any favors either.

Since the game won't run on my computer, I'll have to take your word for it. I approve this judgement.

Definitely agree here. I liked the graphics so much that I decided to use (an edited version of) one of the sprites as my avatar on several sites I regularly frequent.

You clearly played it further than I did. I gave up when I couldn't beat the non-random enemy by the second save point.
Spoonweaver wrote:The ripped music wasn't doing this game any favors either.
This was the biggest issue I had with the game. Even more than the language, which I also took issue with. Worst example would be the sound for resting; it's way louder than the music in the surrounding areas when I lower the volume. Seriously, some of us don't want to wake up the other people in the building when we play these sorts of games, man.

Judgement upheld. Next case.
Remeber: God made you special and he loves you very much. Bye!
