Okay, I know this is an old story, but I just recently looked more into it, and I am bewildered why so many people apparently think Tookie shouldn't get the death penalty and be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
I mean, seriously? He killed four innocent people and people think this guy is a hero or something?
Jesus s-l-i-m-i-n-g Christ, s-u-p-e-r-s-l-i-m-i-n-g what now?

I don't know a lot about Tookie either, but I can take a guess.
In prison, Tookie reformed. He spoke out against the gang violence he used to lead, and wrote several books aimed at steering children away from gangs.
That doesn't un-do his actions. it doesn't bring back any of the people he killed, but to anybody who wants to believe that bad people can change their ways, Tookie provides an example.
I think to somebody who has a bad past but wants a good future, Tookie could provide a role model and a cautionary tale all rolled up in one.
