Okay folks, so I'm just past the 1 hour mark playtesting my own game, and there's a game-breaking bug (prevents you from progressing further), and get this, it's BEFORE the end of what I USED to have. I have no idea how and/or when I could have possibly broken this (it's a simple wallmap thing, maybe I bumped a button while looking back at this old map at some point...?). In any case, I will post the first bugfix update tomorrow night that will fix a number of small issues I've found while playing AND while looking over the new material.

I don't plan on playing all the games, but I did play two:
Eternity Fragment - I already PM'd my criticism so I'll just say that I think the map design and aethetics are excellent.
Skyfall - Pretty fun game with fun battles. People should play this because it shows that characters having an array of abilities at the beginning is a good way to start off. Much better backdrops than Motrya, too.
Also, if anybody has any criticisms on graphics in Motrya, please PM them to me. I think I'm aware of most of them already, but there's always the possibility of me not noticing something.

<TheGiz> oh hai doggy, oh no that's the straw that broke tjhe came baclsb
The hole must have been during the intro sequence... Not sure how it crashed there, I tested and tested about 10 times every cutscene to make sure everything was almost perfect(I'm sortof a perfectionist.). I really think I spend most of my time debugging the scripts. I made the game in the STABLE release, it may be a bug in the Nightly if that is what you are using to playtest. If you think the visual style of the intro is weird, wait until after the intro...JSH357 wrote:Chronoboy Adventures - 3/10 - Lots of weird, complicated scripting, it looks like. It crashed on me shortly after falling down a hole. The visual style is really weird.
30 times??? As said with JSH's reply, I tested and tested each cutscene about 10 times to make sure everything was almost perfect. Be sure to run the game in the STABLE RELEASE, and not the nightly as that maybe where the issues are occurring for people.Spoonweaver wrote:Chronoboy Adventures - clunky but functional graphics to begin with. then once falling in the hole, I examine the harp about 30 times and finally get teleported to ultima land. The graphics all seem ripped here. A lot seems to be going on, but it's hard to really make out what exactly is happening. Fights are all murderous.
I plan on updating the graphics, it will still use the same perspective, but have original graphics.
Which part of the story's dialog are you having issues making out? I tried to make the dialog as clear, while having the characters have their own personalities. Perhaps the personality of the main character is a little difficult at times, as the comments he tends to make in specific situations which he does not fully understand himself.
The fights are difficult unless you have a weapon! A dagger can kill a wolf in one hit. I would recommend doing the stables quest to make a handful of cash to buy the dagger. Once you have that, then go out and fight. You level REALLY fast too. I wouldn't expect to survive battle a in the woods with a wolf bare handed, why should the player? lol This game has a lot of thinking before doing involved, that is where I placed most of the strategy.
I will make a short YouTube video for those who are having issues, it will walkthrough the entire demo, both in the good and evil storylines. One video for each, this way you can point me to the exact timeframe in the video to where the issue are so that I may correct them.
I had a chance to play the other games last night. I did enjoy most of them, however some of them were cut short, but I do look forward to them after an good update.

This reminds me to mention, if anybody finds a game that was designed for the stable release that has a bug that only happens in the nightly build, please report it to me! This would be considered an engine bug!Chronoboy wrote: 30 times??? As said with JSH's reply, I tested and tested each cutscene about 10 times to make sure everything was almost perfect. I don't see this. Does anybody else have this problem? I would definitely consider this a bug.Mystic wrote:However - I don't know if it's just me, but the draw tool doesn't work if you hold down the mouse button and go. I have to click each spot.
You can thank Jay for that one. It only works in the gfx_directx backend (which recently became the default on Windows)Fenrir-Lunaris wrote:I just now noticed that you can RESIZE CUSTOM by dragging the window around. This means I can now realistically use my wacom tablet. This also means the OHR itself is now my favorite program to make sprites with. Thank you whoever did this.
How do you like the scroll tool? TMC made that recently.Fenrir-Lunaris wrote: Also it took me a moment to figure out that holding Capslock and scrolling around has been superseded by a new Scroll button. I'm such a fool.
No problem. Done. Although don't be afraid of the wiki! Except for maybe tables, editing it is super-easy, and if you do bung something up it is easy for me to fix it (even if you bung it up really bad!) so don't be afraid to experiment.Pepsi Ranger wrote: EDIT: James, even though Powerstick Man XE is not an official entry, I'd still like a link to its trailers (maybe under a "promotional" category or something). I don't ever use Wiki, so I don't want to bung up the page from my own attempt at editing it. However, the game itself will still be on that page for the next month, so I think it's fair to remind a future generation that this was once the "kick-off game."
I added your game to the list on the wiki, but I notice two zip files. Are they the same?ncw64 wrote:Hey, my computer died and I just not got a laptop and got my game online. I'm uploading my game regardless, and I'm not sure if it's too late. Hopefully the T-shirt will still be a possibility! :)
The page still says world 1-7, I am guessing that you just haven't updated the description? Anyway, I also added this to the wiki.Mogri wrote:DYWTBAH? has been uploaded with a new chapter and a shell of a sneak preview at the one that is to follow. I'm really not too happy about the lack of progress I made on the game, but the bugfixes are significant and deserve a release of their own anyway.
Link in sig. ENJOY.

Well... It seems during the recording, I ended up recording a whooping 20 minutes of gameplay just for the good karma storyline, I wasn't even finished it, and stopped it as I was worrying about the YouTube size requirement... Which I inevitably passed regardless.Chronoboy wrote:I will make a short YouTube video for those who are having issues, it will walkthrough the entire demo, both in the good and evil storylines. Since I never really timed each storyline in the demo to begin with, I believe the good storyline is about 25-30 minutes(if you know the game already like me). The evil storyline is roughly the same length. However, the evil storyline can also branch 2 ways itself, which would actually make it 3 separate storylines. I figure without knowing where everything is, the total playtime of the demo(if one follows each storyline) should make roughly 1 hour or more of gameplay.
I think I'll make the YouTube videos without the story dialect in them to save movie time, just with gameplay should be fine. This will give people a good starting point, as the game features a fair amount of exploration, and one might be lost in the first stages of the game. To be fair, some of the games features are modeled from the Ultima series, where exploration and speaking with townspeople are key, not everything is given to the player on a silver platter(some are).
UPDATE: Here are the first videos of the game being played:
Intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qxOQA_bJaI
Good storyline part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9xMMWHG0V4
Good storyline part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POFtkn7tfbw
I will upload part 3 of the good storyline after I upload the first parts of the evil storyline. However, this will at least get you started on figuring out where to go(if your lost in the beginning).
You can kill the MagiTroll, he uses fire magic. I hid a secret item in the game which gives you increased defense against fire.
UPDATE 2: Here are the first 2 parts of the evil storyline being played:

But does it have DUCKS?Surlaw wrote:Going to write a Motrya review tomorrow, once this game's done it's probably going to be the best traditional RPG on the engine.
Haven't played it yet, but it's on my to-do list. If it's as good as you say it is, then I have quite a bit of work to do....
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.
I found some time to play a couple games, it's only fair since people have played mine (and have been more praising than I expected!)
Still, all of my finals are on monday, so I played the shortest two.
Apophenia was fun. It's a lot shorter than I expected, but I really like the atmosphere. The gunshot sounds and menu sounds really fit into it, and I think all in all it's really well put together. The battle system seems like it's fun as well, even though there wasn't enough time to really test it. I like the exploding barrel. I also like the teleporting thing to show the end of the demo but also add a little bit of time. I think I'm going to steal this idea for my own game so that I can show the battle dynamics of the next dungeon even though the dungeon itself isn't done (stupid puzzles...)
Legendary Heroes was interesting. For some reason it felt like things moved too quickly, but I think I'm guilty of this as well. The lack of battle music was kind of weird, but I like the games style and what the basic plotline seems to be. There are some spelling and grammar problems ("would of") and the already mentioned character-that-doesn't-exist talking when you enter her house, but I believe you've fixed those since?
Either way with both games I'd really like to see more. I'll try to tackle the rest of the short games this weekend, then start the longer games after my finals and after I bugfix my own release, haha.

That sounds like a bug! I have filed it as <a href="http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/bugzilla ... d=869">bug 869</a>Mystic wrote:I should mention that I still have to use -gfx sdl for it to even work at all.
Did you mention this in another thread? If so, I missed it and/or forgot.
What version of Windows are you using? Also, can you go to start->run and type dxdiag and see what version of directx you have installed?
