That Electro battle looks more creative than 90% of battles in the OHR at that time period, heh.

"Volcano Elixer" - Excellent.

The Electro battle actually surprised me. I wasn't expecting any of these to be more than generic damage trading.

Too bad it doesn't stay creative. Here's Part 8!

"Icee and Sam Maxwell have some pretty good fire attacks"

*MISS* *MISS* *MISS*

The flame thrower attacks didn't even appear to do more than 100 damage. I'm guessing the snow enemies weren't actually that weak?

The main issue is their evasion. A Quack! followed by a flamethrower should have taken the wolves out, but I never hit them. It took me many, many OHR games to understand how Accuracy and Evasion work. Heck, nowadays I just leave it out entirely; the formula is just too stupid and complex to rely on.

And here's Part 9!

I'm under the impression that a lot of the battle math will be customizeable in the near future, but ... people hardly know what to do with our existing freedom of setting hero and enemy stats.

If someone came up with and shared some well-functioning battle templates, would that save everyone a bunch of time, or would it simply suffocate the uniqueness of battles in future games?
Templates. Things like - stats for a strong but inaccurate brute. A fast, but well-calculated ninja. A powerful but unhealthy wizard. An easily defeated minion who finds strength in numbers. A strong lvl 5 warrior boss.

I am not a battle stats guy. I suck at that stuff - especially when you start dealing with levelups. You need to re-balance everything all over again!
I'd use templates all the time if I could, and then, with that stable base, I could change numbers as I saw fit.

Having a template of heroes isn't going to ultimately bring balance because it ultimately falls on how they interact with enemies. Duck & MJ 1 just needed more playtesting.

That, and Moogle1 added new accuracy formulas to help balance accuracy. Simply make most weapons give +90 or +80 accuracy.

"Aim math: Bad" is actually incredibly easy. All you need to know is if ACC = EVD, the attack has a 50% chance of hitting. The only 'problem' is that ACC and EVD would have to start out in the triple digits to make small changes to them possible without being game breaking.

Yeah, I'm sorry I can't answer too much about it. If you have any specific questions about characters / their origins / weapons / implied plot elements, I can probably answer them though.

When I have the battle system code cleaned up sufficiently, i hope to embed a test battle into the enemy/hero/attack editors. You would easily be able to swap in/out heroes and enemies, and there would be no waiting between turns, so you could rapidly test attacks in different scenarios.

Don't expect this very soon... I will have to do a *lot* of clean up before this is practical.

I didn't expect this to turn into an OHR feature thread, haha. Do continue.

Bards useful in a JSH game? Who would have thought!?

EDIT: I've NEVER seen an inventory screen filled up in an OHR game before. That is amazing.

I guarantee the bard is not useful intentionally. Total mishap.

Here's yet another part:

Next episode will likely be the last one. There might be 15, though. I grossly overestimated the length of the game after cutting random stuff out.

This has been lots of fun, though! I'm considering doing another. Duck and MJ 2? Another JSH game? Perhaps another OHR game? Hm.

... And here's the end of it all!

That about wraps it up. I want to get in more practice doing this before I LP Motrya (to advertise), so I'm thinking about covering another game. Perhaps Duck and MJ 2, Super Joe RPG, Query 1 or another OHR user's game such as Walthros. Open to ideas! Thanks for watching, the 10 of you who did.
