Game of the Month - March nominations
The Game of the Month is a new feature that I'd like to start up here. Each month, the site will feature a game, to be selected by all of you, putting it on the front page and in a special announcement box on the gamelist. Basically, this is our way of saying, "Here is a game that you should play!"
How it will work
Each month, we'll take nominations for the next month's poll. Any game that receives a nomination from at least two people is eligible, and nominations are open for the entire voting period. Anyone can nominate up to 3 games.
The poll itself will decide what the next month's Game of the Month will be. It will close on the 25th of each month; at that point, the next month's Game of the Month and nominees have been decided and the new poll will be posted within a week.
Again, any game is eligible -- it doesn't have to be new. The only restriction is that the game has to be hosted on Slime Salad and the game cannot have already been Game of the Month (even if it has been updated since).
I realize this is late in the month to announce this, but I'd like to get nominations for March's Game of the Month (i.e. for a February poll). If we don't get at least three games on the poll, I'll extend nominations a few days, but I think we can manage that.
I will start by nominating Don't Eat Soap!, Slimes!, and Bob the Hamster in the Crypt of Baconthulhu, the site's highest-rated games.

Yeah. I got halfway through a video walkthrough a couple weeks ago; the plan is to upload that and then kickstart chapter 2. This month really sucks for me, though.Twinconclusive wrote:Phantom Tactics (Are we still working on this thing or what?)
Are we still missing animations for the generics? I think offhand two of the mage-types aren't done yet.
Re: Game of the Month - March nominations
Ahh, that distinguishes it from the generic "this is a game you can learn from" approach that some games take. (blecharf Vikings) In this case...Mogri wrote:Basically, this is our way of saying, "Here is a game that you should play!"
I nominate Okédoké!, Boundless Ocean, aaand Don't Eat Soap!

FYI, Walthros has been nominated twice.
EDIT: I see some people nominating their own games. I'm guessing that is okay?

I'd rather not see Village People or Phantom Tactics get chosen, because of this: "the game cannot have already been Game of the Month (even if it has been updated since)"
I think it's a reasonable rule, but these two games are very early in their development and it wouldn't really be fair when they're finished to have their GotM nod already used up on an early demo. I'd say only finished, near finished, or will-never-be-updated games should be voted on, but it's up to the voters.
My nominations: Bloodlust, Sleepover, The Slime Wars.

I'm inclined to agree, but I'd rather leave it up to the authors. If you don't want your game on the poll, fine. If you don't mind, leave it to the voters. Personally, I'd rather give Phantom Tactics an update before letting it get GotM, and I imagine you feel the same way about VP.I'd rather not see Village People or Phantom Tactics get chosen, because of this: "the game cannot have already been Game of the Month (even if it has been updated since)"

How about a compromise like so: a game can only be game of the month once per year? This will allow for updates and things, while still allowing people to discuss any game they wish. Plus, it might push some authors to work to release a new version of their game if it becomes a GotM, and then it would be nice if the game could become so again perhaps.
In addition, a game cannot be GotM more than once without a substantial update (this is a vague rule, but I don't really see people arguing over this).
See, there is always the chance that a game never gets that update, so I don't think GotM should wait for it. If anything, a current disucssion courtesy of being GotM might increase the chances of seeing that update.

I am Srime
There's no shortage of games. We're not going to run out of GOTM candidates, and I'd like to showcase a new game each month. If you want to wait until your game is complete to put it in the running, that's your prerogative, but it gives an odd and unfair advantage to unfinished games if we let them on the list multiple times.
