Ypsiliform Release Candidate

Post by Bob the Hamster »

We are very very close to a new stable release. I would greatly appreciate it if everybody could Download the release-candidate and test it out. If it is indeed worthy of being called "stable", we could be making it official within a week.

Lots of cool new features are available in this, so if you haven't been keeping up with the nightly builds already, please check whatsnew.txt to see what is new.

Image Caiman here, no problems.

Though I have made a basic run-through (and bugless so far), it feels the exact same as the last nightly I was using. I've yet to test game.exe.

EDIT: Just tested the brightness and volume control buttons on my computer, neither of which do that annoying thing they used to do.
What they DO do is enter a letter or number as long as the button is held, but since this can be stopped, it's no longer a problem.

Awfully quiet in this thread... Does that mean that the release candidate is working peachy? Or does it mean that Baconlabs is the only one who noticed this thread ;)

Noticed, downloaded, testing it out.

On a side note, Vikings isn't ready. Should I add a brief (comical) interlude beforehand explaining the game is a demo, and MANY things are as yet undone?
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.

If you prefer, sure, that would be cool.

Or alternatively I could just take the last released version (was that xocolatl? or a more recently uploaded version?) and apply RPG file format upgrades to it, and save the full release for whenever you are ready (which will still be called Yggdrasil)

VoM is nearly twice as long as Portal already. If you hold off an new content because you're improving the existing content, I think that's a good trade at this point of the game.

I'm really curious, in a vain kind of way, what you took from my playtesting (though probably you should PM that to avoid spoilers).

I guess I could also play the new version

Ypsiliform hasn't crashed or glitched, though I haven't been using it as much as I'd like to be.

Nifty!

I have imported it into subversion, and am rebuilding the release candidate files to contain it.

So far I have played just enough to see portraits and reworked dialog. Can you give me an overview of what is new for whatsnew.txt?

There's too much new to list. As Surlaw once commented, each time the game gets an update, it's like playing an entirely different game. Still, if I had to boil it down to a few things:

More story scenes for the plot to unfold more naturally.
Enemies and elemental system completely revamped.
Even MORE subquests to explore.

My official stance is that the game is still only "complete" up to the "world of ruin" part of the game, since I still have quite a few story elements to incorporate and a few more areas to alter around. The ending half of the game feels even more rushed and lacking than before, but it's going places. Two steps forward, one step back.

I downloaded the stable just now, and I'll let you know if I come across any problems.
