Review: Don't Eat Soap

Post by Meatballsub »

If you have been in the community for any period of time, you know when James Paige, the grandfather of the OHRRPGCE, releases a game; it is a pretty big deal.

Don't Eat Soap has been praised by many, and has even caused some controversy within the community. I suppose some people may think that one gives James too much credit for his creation considering he is, after all, the mind behind the engine itself.

However, after playing only a few minutes of this game, one would be stupid to even consider that. What we have here is a solid game, and I am not just saying that because it was made by James Paige.

Don't Eat Soap is basically a Bubble Bobble clone for the OHRRPGCE. Starring Bob and Misa the Hamster, you vomit soap bubbles onto your foes and pop them to oblivion. It is super easy to pick up and play, and the difficulty scaling is pretty much perfect.

James did a wonderful job of using the 16-color palette for Don't Eat Soap. The sprites and background look great, and animations are fluent. Jabbercat also did a great job capturing just the right mood and feel with the score for the game.

All in all, the game is great, and not because it had the Spam Man behind it, but because of its ultimately flawless design. Heck, it even has a high score feature that is saved forever, even if you turn off the game! Sweet!
So what are you doing? Go play it now!
