The Top 30, Summer 2009 Voting Thread (READ THE RULES)

Post by JSH357 »

Here we go again people.

First, here is the previous Top 30 List for reference:
http://www.jsh.illuminative.org/top_30/ ... mer08.html

In order to make the list as COOL as possible, it's nice to get some comments from voters. Please, if you would, submit:
1) Something you like about the game
2) A short reason for why you chose it
3) A poem (haiku) or other short creative work
4) A screenshot of your favorite part of the game
5) A personal experience you had with the game that seems worth mentioning
6) Anything else appropriate
This is OPTIONAL, but it really makes the list look good, so do it if you have the time. The best comments will be published, and there usually isn't much competition so do submit, ok?

BONUS QUESTION: Vote for the five best uses of battles in OHR games.

Rules:
1. Vote for your five-fifteen favorite OHR games/movies/whatever. Lowest number = highest on your favorite list.
2. You may NOT vote for your own game(s). This is an experimental rule. I know it sucks, but deal with it.
3. You may not vote for unreleased games. Demos are fine, though.
4. You may not vote twice, including by altnick.
5. You must be an active member of the community in order to vote. In other words, if you just registered and voted your vote will be ignored. This is done to prevent rigging. If you're an old vet coming back to vote, that's fine.
6. Type out the entire name, just in case I don't know what the acronym is.
7. Airship 2600 is banned from this list. Sorry, it's just too good. Additionally, any other vaporware games shouldn't be voted for.
8. Vote for individual games, not entire series. (OHR House, Pitch Black, etc)
9. ALL VOTES ARE TO BE SUBMITTED BY PRIVATE MESSAGES (Slime Salad, Castle Paradox only). Do not post your votes on the message board topic, but feel free to discuss games or the poll.

Some general guidelines:
1. No one cares what you vote for, so don't feel compelled to vote 'in the community's eyes' or for games that you think are good but don't actually like. I want this list to reflect the personal preferences of real OHR users; i.e. I want it to be largely subjective.

How scoring works:
Your number 1 choice gets the most points. The higher the number, the fewer the points. In addition, the number of users who actually voted for the game is taken into account.

I'll post an example vote soon.

Deadline: around MAY 28, 2008.

I'm glad to see something of mine make it into the example vote. And by glad I mean thrilled. And by thrilled I mean horrified beyond words.

Also, I've actually played a few games this year. Expect my opinions to have changed somewhat in regards to my previous year's votes.

Moreover, Stickied, because it's a contest/vote.
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.

I just want to say thank you for this. I was planning on compiling this list when I got home, and you've saved me some time! It's also nice to look at and realize that a lot of cool stuff has come out in the last year.

I really hope we have a big turn out for this, so I'm just adding another post to remind people to VOTE NOW. We had a lot of voter apathy in the TGC, I hope people actually participate in this.

You should probably just start paying people to vote if begging and coercion hasn't worked yet.

Let's assume it's the 24th and leave it at that. What I usually do at deadlines is wait 24 hours after the most recent vote. If nothing else comes in, I call it.

Because I forgot to announce the Top 30 Poll on Castle Paradox, I am extending the vote period to May 28th.

Voting is now closed, with 14 total votes. Low turnout, but not by too much less than usual.

The Top 5 are extremely close.
