Detelamane's Updates

Post by Twinconclusive »

Previously, my walk-abouts were completely free styled and followed no consistency whatsoever.
Looking back at them, I'd very much like to change this.

So I looked at a few models from other games and eventually came up with Den's new walkabout:

Image

I'm going to be using a brighter palette when it gets imported in the game, just sosyaknows.

Better? Worse?
Comments? Complaints?

[edit]Hurm..It'd be neat if this forum allowed image sizes to be enlarged by clicking on them..

You can still enlarge images by proper use of the IMG tag.

The new sprites are brighter and cleaner, but they don't really have that trademark look... they just look like anyone's OHR walkabouts. I recommend sticking with the old ones.

Oh. Did not know this.
I'll try googling this up later.

Right..As soon as I finished the set, I realized how generic they looked.
I don't like my old sprites because they're too messy, but I don't like my new ones because they're too square! :gonk:

Should I modify my old set, or should I start jazzing up the new set?
Maybe I'll try both. :)

After redoing all of Den's sprites in Mini-mode, I realized that it honestly looked no good with a tile-set around it, so I stuck with the original model, but tried to improve on the coloring style.

For better or worse?

Also, I got the IMG tag to work for me. :)

The new sprites look decent. I don't think I am in a good position to try and make corrections, since they are in your own personal style.

Those look pretty good.

What does it look like if you make their arms move one pixel further in the left and right walking frames?

I guess it would look something like this:

<img src="http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2081/newtenmd8.png" width="732" height="188">

Thanks for the tip!
It also led to me fixing his leg so that his foot doesn't look so odd. :)

I'm satisfied with this new model, so I'm gonna get all of my old walkabouts tweaked to fit into a uniform style. :D

[edit]Also tweaked the battle model.

Jan, 22:

Look what I can do!

Image

After getting a small level-up bonus, the hero will get some stat points distributed by the player.
This should make for some interesting character builds to take place.

The values of each stat will alter from hero to hero, but basically:
  • 'Health' : A pretty nice bit of health. I'm imagining normal heroes will obtain around 10 HP per point.
'Stamina': You get Stamina (MP) and only Stamina.
'Strength': You get some Power (Damage), Health (Very little), and Defense per point.
'Dexterity': You get some Power, Evasion, and Accuracy.
'Wisdom': You get some Magic Power, Magic Defense, and Stamina.
I'm planning to have three types of heroes right now (Str, Dex, Wis) and each will obtain larger doses in (Magic) Power if they invest points in their respective groups.
There will also be hybrid-stat heroes, so you'll have to mix the stats up a bit!

Now I just need to show some text boxes in the bottom region to tell players what each point will add and make the scripts compatible with every hero :D

I've composed a new title screen song for Detelamane, and I could do nothing to hold back the tears that welled up in my eyes as I clicked the notes into place. :gonk:

Cool man, so do you have a planned general time when you might release another demo?

Content-wise, the Demo's just about complete.
I'm just going back to rebalance battles and retweak graphics.

If all goes well, this will be done in a month?
