Meh, not going to protest the 4th place. But I do need to know if people are getting error messages and what OS's they're using when they can't run the game.

Running on Windows Vista.
This application has failed to start because OpenAL32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I occasionally run into similar problems when trying to play other indie games on my various machines over the years. And no, I'm not interested in installing this thing again.

It also failed for me and gave the same error message. I had to download the .dll file in order to play.

In 2nd place, I have Nathan Karr's "NO EAT"
Image

Before I even started playing this game I expected a strange experience, and this game didn't disappoint. No Eat is perhaps the best game ever made by the developer Nathan Karr. The cutscenes look like something straight form his comic series and the gameplay actually kept me entertained.
This point in the game were you choose which weapon you get really sets this game apart from Raep Dungeon in my eyes. It adds a layer of re playability to the game that actually had me coming back for more. ( I needed to know what was in those chests )
The Graphics in this game were above passable. This was some of Nate's best work. The mouth part, that I posted a screen shot of, really surprised me.
The sound effects were great, though the game could have used a bit more sound. Overall I think the sound in this game was pretty good.
I did have a bit of a problem with the battle backdrops in this game. The final boss was kind of gross looking, but mostly it was the fact that they were all most likely ripped. If you're going to go through the trouble of doing all the other graphics you really should make them all and not just rip 1 or 2. It calls into question the origins of all the other graphics in your game when you do that.
Overall, the game was amazing. I would have liked to see a bit more going on in it though. 1 or 2 more choices like the weapon one would have been fantastic.

In 1st place, I have SDHawk & The Giz's "Transylvania Girls"

Image

Right away, this game's scripting blew me away. The opening menu was set up in such a smooth manner that I could only guess the amount of time that was spent on it. The game continued to amazing me as I found that the whole game was controlled by nothing but the mouse.
The mechanics of the game seemed pretty straight forward. you have 100 days ( or less ) to find 4 pieces of dracula and a virgin in order to summon dracula back from the dead. The story behind each of the women in the game was written well enough to make me want to keep reading and the challenge level was high enough to keep me interested.
The graphics were a bit lacking though. Playing through the whole game in order to see the low grade nude shots that were presented was a bit upsetting. If this game had better graphics I think it could easily become one of the best dating sims ever.
The castlevania music score was entertaining but I could have done without it.
Overall, I had fun playing this game and it actually amazed me that someone made something like this on the OHR.

Oh yeah!

The tiles were drawn by James Paige (his name is in the credits) - I was just putting them to a devious use. (And yes, he did give me permission to use them.)
Spoonweaver wrote:I did have a bit of a problem with the battle backdrops in this game.
Jormungandling's Belly battle backdrop from Wandering Hamster for all but one fight.
Spoonweaver wrote:The final boss was kind of gross looking, but mostly it was the fact that they were all most likely ripped.
I agree. It was the best image my Google search for "appendix" brought up - the walkabouts for the final boss were based on the runner up.

The undead sausage was a ripped sprite; the first boss was a public domain sprite from a set I downloaded half a decade ago; the chimera was made by the same person who did the credits backdrop.

I'm going to work on a revamped version of this game now that the porn contest is over. I'm having the person who drew the credits backdrop redraw all the story backdrops, removing the nudity and scat, and drawing things like the dragon, the sausage, the battle backdrops, and attacks myself. I'll definitely think over adding other features and choices.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I do not contest this critique or this placement.

As you might expect, the four relics of Dracula are easier to come by than the virgin.
The graphics were a bit lacking though. Playing through the whole game in order to see the low grade nude shots that were presented was a bit upsetting.
I haven't tried to play the game a second time, so I'm taking your word for it.

Placement approved. I won't be upset at losing to a piece of quality game design like this. Even if it did cheat by using ripped music, it's not like that's really a mark in its favor. (I mean, unless these are somehow homemade Castlevania musical sequences.)

Sure, okay. I'll take the blame for that.

I'll agree with that ranking. Hawk is a great game makin' man.

100% yes. Nathan is the only person I know who can take a game premise like this and turn it into a funny game with serious RPG chops. I agree with this ranking.
Spoonweaver wrote: ...the controls were laggy and the overall goal was questionable.

I don't like to agree with this rating because this game was the most fappable and the gameplay simulated the act of sexual intercourse, but just like in real life I couldn't last till the finish. Reluctantly, I agree with this rating.

I agree with 3 out of 4 of Spoonweaver's ratings and approve of his judgements.

I'd like to begin with how impressed I was by each game. Hawk and Giz's, along with Nathan's: I felt these were their best games to date. Fenrir's, quite possibly, though I'm more reserved about it. Maybe if he finishes it.

The rankings were fairly easy once I played each, but I had two different lists: one based on personal enjoyment, largely influenced by my love of the ohrrpgce and knowing the authors, the other based on a more professional eye. I'm fairly certain who the winner will be given Spoon's votes and JSH's interest, and I'm happy with that. Quite frankly, I'd be happy with whoever wins, they were all interesting and great in their own ways.

That said, what it came down to was the pro side of this. The 'big picture' as it were. And the big picture here is: this was a Pohrn Game contest. So I'm looking for games that best fit that bill.

Thus, my rankings, done in Spoon's fun style:

4th place: Thrust Porn

Image

No surprise, but worth a kudos given RMSephy's use of what appears to be a pure-programmed attempt. I've always enjoyed checking out his prototypes, and I hope one day he makes good on one. Then I can say I was a fan before he made it big, there from the beginning.

The game itself would have worked better as an online flash game or the like. The concept wasn't that off, really. While tapping the ceiling seemed a bit corny, what was neat was when the dots start coming in bigger, you can begin to see the picture hidden beneath. I didn't manage to get the 5000 points suggested by the readme, will try again real quick, (assuming it will simply show the pic)... can't seem to hit it.

All in all, with some more design, it could be made into a fun barstool arcade kind of 'reveal the hidden picture' game.

3rd place: Transylvania Girls

Image

Now, before you have a GIZ, hear me out: this game is amazing. Easily in my top10 ohr games ever made. The design is a lot of fun. You play a bored guy who wants to revive Dracula by finding his 4 parts and the use of 'virgin blood'. How they mixed this into a dating sim was genius. The writing wasn't bad at all, it had me smiling. The whole game did from start to end, (bar the tedious nature of waiting through the in-between animations, which were a lot of fun, don't get me wrong.)

My only problem with this game just happens to be the one thing I'm looking for in a Pohrn game.

Maybe it's asking too much, or setting the standard too high, but so far as an ohr game: this is amazing. But as a pohrn game? It has charm, a lot of it, but the graphics and porn... I can't rate this higher than the next two because of it. Please understand and don't get sore about it. It was outstanding. As far as Giz's work goes, this is amazing, and I'm now spoiled by expecting him to pump out work like this multiple times in a single year.

But the bottom line is: who can fap to this? Besides JSH, I mean. Who / what fetish were you aiming for here, the custard's last stand atari crowd?

JSH357> it's almost a shame this one is porn
JSH357> easily a top tier ohr game
Charbile> yeah
JSH357> of course, no complaints from me *fap fap*
Charbile> it's in my top10..hahaah

2nd place: NO EAT

Image

I found the concept pretty interesting from the get go. While not a fan of vore, but not pretending like it's satan's dong either, the idea of the dungeon being inside some girl, fighting things that she has swallowed seemed very curious. Having played his previous work, I was doubtful that he would be able to pull it off. And my doubt turned out to be unfounded: this game is a fun ride, but with a questionable ending.

It's the battles that grate on me in Nathan's work. The first battle in this one gives a hint that nothing's changed, since it's a drawn-out spacebar holding exercise, but after that, it's... well, not too bad. The vampire fight was lively, the hidden fight was neat, and the final one... not so much. But only 2 strikes is a huge improvement.

The graphics aren't the best, but they're fun and have a lot of personality, especially Aine's. I got a kick out of her expressions. There's a certain charm here that's difficult to deny. And Fuzeblu's work is amazing as always.

Which leaves us with the ending. While the sound fx did elicit laughter, seeing that kind of content isn't really a turn on at all. It was presented in good humor, so I can't feign disgust.

While Translyvania is a much more technically impressive game, NO EAT feels like it's trying to appeal to a fetish. I can quite literally see how this could be someone's dream game, whereas I can't say the same for the previous two.

1st place: RAEP Dungeon

Image

It wasn't too long ago that Fenrir, JSH, and I had a talk in a journal I wrote. It seems like a long time ago, but probably not that long. It's what brought me back: Fenrir claimed his BLB game was the most praised and beloved ohr game in existence. I didn't doubt him. This was porn we were talking about.

And so here we are. He wins again in my book. Well played.

Look at it this way: last I checked, where he posted it on FA, it had more than 180 comments. This is for an ohr game. 180 comments on any slime salad thread would be crazy, and this is in the span of like four days too. That's hard to beat.

The game itself is drawn like it's real porn. The graphics are amazing, if disturbing to some people--but this is porn! Honest and true. And this one aspect does matter in these kind of games. Other than that, it's fairly standard ohr fare, which doesn't mean it's bad. If you liked Vikings and thought it needed nudity, this is the game for you.

Eggie> Heh, beating Cockbile gave me a set of legwarmers.
Eggie> That's comical.

[This is Fuze btw] Concerning Nathan's game:

The game was short, but relatively solid. The last boss was a little anticlimactic. Typical gameplay, interesting and overall witty dialogue. My 3.14 cents on the matter. :)

Me and Giz discussed this tonight, and I think what this boils down to is how literal you want to take the idea of a porn contest. At the end of the day what we ended up making here (not entirely intentionally) is an erotic game, rather than a porn game. We actually looked at producing a censored version and it is literally impossible without rewriting massive portions of the script (and really, most of the charm) because sexual themes are at the heart of the game.

Personally I'd like to see the contest include erotica since it's not every day that explicit sexual content is encouraged around here, pornographic or not. But since this is called the PORN contest I can totally understand taking the definition literally, in which case we failed miserably.
