I carefully try and see what I can find out from the control panel.
Then I go south and Examine the painting.

You examine the controls. There's a keyboard that doesn't seem to do anything and a microphone that broadcasts into the party room. There's also a Simon game that stops after the tenth round and two levers that respectively operate the purple gate and the screen that covers the monitor.

You return to the south and examine the portrait. It portrays an uncommonly good-looking fellow, but is mundane in all other respects.

I show the troll my ticket, and head east.
I inspect my sunglasses and bit of cheese, then mess around with the dots on the floor in case they actually do anything.

Pheonix
You enter the party room.

You inspect your sunglasses. You thought they were Ray-Bans, but on closer inspection, you bought knockoffs. Shoot!

You investigate your cheese. Yep, it's still good.

You play with the dots on the ground. They light up briefly as you step on them.

I play the simon game and instruct the party room (phoenix, ya listening?!) through the microphone as to what buttons to step on as I figure out what buttons to press in order to "beat" the simon game in the control room.

I applaud ncw64's ingenuity, but I stand aside and let Phoenix do the button stepping if he so wishes, because I don't want to look undignified

Meanwhile, I stand ready to respond to said commands coming through the speakers.

You start playing the Simon game and call the colors through the speakers.

Pheonix
You run around frantically trying to keep up with ncw's commands, but the colored dots are too far apart. You'll need longer legs or more of them to input the color sequence.

Shizuma
The troll steps to the side, allowing you to go east.

I go East and ask one of the spiders who is sitting out (or the victor of the game of twister, if that is done), if he/she can come help me with something.
If the spider agrees to this, we go West into the party room and try this whole button-pushing thing again.

Pheonix
The spider bystander is happy to hone his color-stepping skills. He follows you to the party room.

ncw64
You relay the colors through the microphone again. After the tenth round ends, the monitor flashes and new words appear:

Enter command ('?' for help)

Pheonix and ncw64 have gained 25 points.

I LOOK around the PARTY room again. All this spider-dancing excitement has been fun, but where is the next puzzle?
