OK, this show has been out and over for awhile now, but I can still start a thread about it, right?!

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (Literally, Heaven Piercing Gurren-Lagann) is a Super Robot show from GAINAX. It originally aired in the Spring 2007 TV season in Japan, premiering on April 1st. The series director was Hirouki Imaishi, the director of Dead Leaves and Re: Cutie Honey episode 1 and key animator for FLCL.

The series is the story of the digger Simon, who lives in the underground village of Jiiha with his best friend and "big bro" Kamina, the local rabble-rouser. Simon's job as a digger is to help expand the village, until one day, he finds a small, drill shaped pendant. When a giant robot crashes through the ceiling of Jiiha village, Simon and Kamina's lives are changed forever.

What follows that is a series filled to the brim with hotblood, super robot fights, humor, and awesome animation. This series is the anti-eva, basically. Highly reccomended.

Has anyone else seen it? Let's talk about Gurren-Lagann! :kamina:
Please read Blasphemous Saga Fantasy okay thanks

I've heard about it quite a bit, but I never actually got to see it (that's about to change).

I have seen it, yes. I think it's my favorite show now, I can't think of anything else that could compete with it. The characters are the best ever.

"Anti-eva" is pretty much the perfect way to describe it. And unlike 100% of all other Japanese shows, it actually has a proper ending that makes sense and resolves everything without just killing everyone for no good reason.

The only negative I can even think of is that some of the common romanizations are stupid, I really hope they're not official. "Gunmen" as a singular noun is nonsense and should just be kept as "Ganmen" or at least changed to "Gunman." And "Gulaparl" is just unbelievable.

Heh... I heard Evangelion's ending was based on Space Runaway Ideon's ending, which the reason why Ideon ended the way it did is because the creator doesn't like making sequels, so the original idea of killing everyone off was so that a franchise won't end up getting milked, and everyone wins. Not so much the case for Evangelion, heh.
