Dwarf Fortress Succession game

Post by Ichiro »

Who wants to take control of ill-tempered alcoholic workers? Yes, this is a call to play a succession game of Dwarf Fortress, where each overseer takes control of the fort for one year and then passes it on to the next.

You can either sign up for an overseer slot (which guarantees a dwarf named after you), or just request that your name to be assigned to a dwarf.

I am generating the region now and will start as soon as we have seven named dwarfs. The starting careers will be:
 • 2x Miners
 • 1x Woodsdwarf
 • 1x Mason/Mechanic
 • 1x Stonecrafter
 • 1x Doctor
 • 1x Farmer

Oh, man. Dwarf fortress. I totally shouldn't; because it is the kind of game that sucks me in and then I don't get anything else done for weeks.

But maybe just one year of play will be okay? (maybe if I only drink socially says the alcoholic)

I have version 0.31.12 with an alternate tileset patched in. Is that compatible with the savegames of whatever version you are playing?

Not sure... I'm using 31.16, no tileset.

Edit: I'm going to be the mason.

Here's where we're going:

A volcano in the middle of a marsh.

I'll choose the carpenter/woodsdwarf.
By the way, marsh with a volcano and no aquifer looks pretty good. Relative elevation map? Also no flux stone but that's survivable I would think.
Oh yeah; do we have all the civs in proximity to here? No goblins wouldn't be any fun now would it.

We have dwarves, humans, elves -- and yes, goblins!

Here's the relative elevation:

For anybody who has never played this game before, I recommend The Complete And utter Newby Tutorial For Dwarf Fortress. it explains the basics of the game, and teaches you the strange keyboard bindings (which aren't actually that much stranger than what the OHRRPGCE uses in places)

*shiver*

Why do I feel like I just handed somebody a bag of cocaine along with detailed instructions on how to properly snort it?

It begins...

Image
(Note: I've set myself as manager)

Upon arriving to Slimeromances, we immediately found ourselves surrounded by buzzards. Our dogs, stressed out from the journey, attack a few.

Image
I immediately put Phoenix to work chopping down trees and our miners to build an entrance underground. Not in this drawing is the rather large magma hole we have. This will be of great use to us once we have metalworkers.

I've been informed that on digging the main staircase, we have struck native gold. I am pleased to hear this information.

While I wait for the farming area to be dug out, I take a quick survey of our workers.
 • Ezum Climaxdaggers, miner.
 • Oddom Throwertrades, miner.
 • Pheonix Plungedhandles, woodworker / expedition leader.
 • Myself, Ichiro Torchholds, mason/mechanic/manager.
 • Stoneweaver Cruxcastle, stonecrafter.
 • Stukos Paddleplanned, farmer.
 • James Paige Shotquake, doctor.
