Internal conflict...

Post by Blue Train »

well, its been along time since i made any real progress with dawn. ive been trying to make it with game maker 7, but im not sure if itll actaully work out the way i want it too. im afraid to make it on the OHRRPGCE only because theres so many limitations... Im stuck : /

So! im gonna leave it to you guys. ill show you some of the graphics i have so far, for both the old ohr ones, and the new game maker 7 project.

please tell me what i should continue it on and why.

thanks!

Well... This all depends on what you want to do really...

I love the OHR, but I also love Game Maker. You just need to decide, do you want to make an RPG game? Because then the OHR would make your life really easy. Or, do you want to make a platform game? Because then Game Maker will make your life really easy.

I'm really quite unsure where my vote on this poll should go. To me, it simply looks like a poll of "Platform game or RPG game"... and I love both genres, although RPG just wins over platform games - so based on that (my personal preferences in game genres) I'd go with the OHRRPGCE.

Love the graphics, BTW. Based on what I see there, I say - make both! :P Your platformer graphics are sweet! and you have some neat graphics for an RPG too... Wait a second... Why don't you make a platform-RPG hybrid!? Could be awesome! Or, just make two episodes of the same game on different genres.

this has alot of ideas in it i like, and thought up before, but i simply dont have the time to do both. or the coding ability to do a hybrid. if i do make both, then this vote will just choose which i make first.

in between finishing school, looking for a job, learning to drive, moving out, + side projects, it isnt realistic to do both for now.[/b]

This can be an easy solution. First, ask yourself this: Could one be the sequel to another?

If the answer is yes, then pick whichever platform tells the better origin story.

Second: Which have you already put more work into? It's usually better to stick with the platform that has more done to it.

Preferences:

If there's any way the Game Maker version could end up like Rygar, then I say go with Game Maker. Otherwise, go with OHR since you put a lot more hype into that version and it seems that's the one everyone's looking forward to.

Besides, you already submitted the preview to HamsterSpeak. Do you really want to make a liar out of the preview?

It seems like the solution is more heavily weighed toward the OHR, but you know what the story needs, and which will tell it better.

Might I boldly suggest that it actually wouldn't be too difficult to add side-scrolling portions to a traditional OHR rpg, what with Moogle's excellent side-scroller scripts found in Hamsterspeak? They're pretty much plug 'n play, really.

I don't think Tim Tim counts as an RPG. A side-scroller RPG would be something like Valkyrie Profile.

Well, I made my decision. I'll be making it using the ohr, probably using the default battle system.

Thanks for your guyses help :D i probably wouldnt even get this far in production if it wasnt for all of your support. <3
