SFXR - sound effect generator
Get it here.
This is a program that creates randomized arcadey sound-effects for you. You can tweak the sounds it makes all you want, but you don't have to, it makes some really good ones on its own. Plus it's just a lot of fun to play with, even if you don't need any sounds.
If you wanted, for example, a jumping sound-effect for a platformer, you could just hit the "jump" button on the side menu until it made one you liked.
Haha, I'm thinking of using this to make sfx for windows, so it sounds like an arcade game.

Default sound effects? Each time you press jump or powerup or any of the other buttons on the left, it creates a new sound. There aren't any defaults. It'll be easy to make sounds that go well with the default Sound Effects.
Also, since I just got this neat webspace I figured I might as well upload some of the sfx I made with this. Take them and use them however you like, if you wish. I'm just using them for windows sound effects right now.

Yes... YES!
You're the man now, dog!
Seriously, this will help anyone making games anywhere. Not only is it really easy, but also allows direct customization so people can get creative with it, AND makes sounds so different that people won't be accused of ripping each other off. By that, I mean you won't be playing a game, and then say "aw man, not another game with SFXR sounds!". Unless of course, the sound style didn't match their game, I guess.

Oh my, this is so much nicer (And Convenient!) than putting my mouth up to a microphone and mouthing random sounds while my roomies are watching me and then going through a painstaking noise-filter process that utterly destroys my attempt to make a measly *Brom* sound
