It turns out there is actually a specific rule for that.Bob the Hamster wrote:I was wondering what would be the mechanics of fighting the beast just as it squeezes through the door?
I didn't notice this before, but the most important parts of that, the manticore getting disadvantage on attack rolls and us getting advantage on attack rolls against it, are actually the same as the effects of the "Blinded" condition. In any case, though, as long as Mug, Jenny, and Fifi position themselves so the manticore can't get all the way into the windmill, its chance to hit us will always be reduced by about 40%, and our chance to hit it will be increased by about 40%, which gives us the advantage by a huge margin.PHB, page 192 wrote:Squeezing into a Smaller Space: A creature can squeeze through a space that is large enough for a creature one size smaller than it. Thus, a Large creature can squeeze through a passage that's only 5 feet wide. While squeezing through a space, a creature must spend 1 extra foot for every foot it moves there, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage while it’s in the smaller space.
And while RAW doesn't say anything about the manticore not being able to use its tail spike attack when squeezing through the door, I assume it wouldn't do that simply because it wouldn't make sense.
