Hi everyone! It's me again!
So, Itch.io is an indie game hosting website that a lot of you know about. However everyone doesnt seem to know about it and very few seem to be taking advantage of what it offers.
Itch.io is a good site to host your games on in order to get some more exposure?
Is it a massive platform like Steam? No.
But you can still get some extra downloads and even sell your game if you're looking to do that.
What I would like to see is more people in the community showing their great games to the world.
I also think we can help each other promote our games out there on other sites by adding to each other's comments, download counts, or at least views.
What you should do if you are one of the few people that already have their games on Itch.io, is add the ohrrpgce tag to your game. That way we can all find your games and help promote them.
Here's the link to all the games on itch.io with the ohrrpgce tag
https://itch.io/games/tag-ohrrpgce
Now, we could change the tag if you like, but I think it serves it's purpose, right?
I've also collected all the OHr games I could find on itch, rated them 5's, and followed the dev
the collection can be seen here. if I missed any games on it let me know. https://itch.io/c/1079248/ohr-games
Anyways, as the title says, this thread is not just about itch.io. It's about other websites where OHR people go out and host their games and otherwise promote their games.
If there's a website that you host your games at and you think more ohr people should host their games there too, let us know and we'll keep track of them all so we can help each other.
I'm going to try to keep track of all the OHR games people post outside the ohr so we all know where they are and can go there and support each other. I'll list links to collects of games found elsewhere below.

How about instead of showing all these great games to the world, we focus on the quality of the games, their enticing premises, the core promise of their concept and how well they answer it?
But by all means, i encourage everyone to post their games everywhere they can. Read all the comments you receive out there. Let there be the great reckoning.

How do you add that tag? I don't see it in any of my options.
Also, I haven't checked, but what you've done might count as vote manipulation. Be cautious.
I'd also suggest Game Jolt, Indiedb and Zoom, but I'm mostly unfamiliar with how those sites work, so someone else would have to fill people in. Gamejolt and IndieDB I know, are both Itch.io style upload whatever sites, but Zoom seems to be a smaller GOG.

Tags are different than engine options (which I believe we've also been trying to get added).
Tags are a pain in the ass to find on the edit game page, but they're just under the game description option, and under the "genre" section. Very easy to gloss over. See screenshot:
Hope that helps. I had to add OHR to Bean Boy's tags. [/img]

GameJolt seems like such a serious platform, but I've never heard people talk about it. I'd prefer gamejolt to itch for a number of reasons, but itch is a well-known and widely talked-about platform, so I'm going with itch. It's unfortunate, I don't know why gamejolt isn't more widely used.

I have had Crypt of Baconthulhu up on itch.io for ages. I added the ohrrpgce tag. Thank you Rue, I would not have found that without help :)
I like itch.io and I'll try to upload some more of my stuff there later when I have free time.
Thank you for mentioning it, Spoonweaver!

It could make sense to put the OHRRPGCE itself on itch.io. Other game engines are there. Uploading all the different builds to itch.io every release would be too much of a pain, but we could just link to the official Downloads page.
Edit: well actually, they do have a commandline tool to allow automating uploads.

Maybe an "Upload to itch.io" option in the "Distribute Game" menu?

I would love that option.
Actually, I'm sort of surprised we haven't jury rigged a "Upload to Slime Salad" option in using either requests or selenium. If FB can't do it, it could just call a python script or something.
...I didn't just volunteer myself for something, did I?
Ok so I originally started the thread to try to motivate people to post their games outside the community
but instead of that, I'm changing gears.
I think the best way to get people to post their great games outside the community is to show ohr games outside the community already!
I've added multiple links to the first post of the thread!
I'd like to track all the OHR games posted outside the community so that I, and everyone else hopefully, can support those games with upvotes, comments, downloads/purchases, and reviews.
I know I am missing other games and other sites!! Please let me know which ones and I will add them to the list!
Please visit the links and send some good vibes to the games there with some up votes or comments!

But if I post my game to multiple sites, its total download counter on the site with the biggest number won't be as big
Then again, uploading in multiple places means more total downloads overall, probably. Sure, most people won't download it on more than one place I post to, but a lot of those people will only be on one such place and not the other
I should probably get an itch.io profile too and start uploading my games there. Especially the weirder ones that I'm more passionate about!
Remeber: God made you special and he loves you very much. Bye!
