So if you want to script your own splash screen, you can do so.

If you want to override the built-in android splash screen, you can do that too!

The current default android splash screen looks like:



I am totally open to replacing this with something better looking :)

It needs to be exactly 457x266 pixels and saved in .png format.

No I don't know why it needs to be that exact size, that is just what the commandergenius port of SDL 1.2 on Android uses, so that is what the ohrrpgce uses.

Anytime I package your game into an Android .apk file for you, you can give me your own 457x266 file named publisherlogo.png and I can easily add it to the apk.

Note that there is no rule saying that your game has to advertise that it is powered by the ohrrpgce. You can put your own logo only, if you prefer.

Also, since this is a true splash screen, it only shows for the exact amount of time that the loading takes, which is usually just right on most devices, but could be longer on a slow device or shorter on a fast device.

And of course, there's the logo displayed on the Wiki and in Custom.

If anyone wants to contribute logos and splash screens, we could have a collection of them! Even if we don't agree to change the "official" (more like de-facto) logo or splash screens, it would definitely nice to have options available.
Oh! And icons for game.exe and custom.exe too! Or if you want to create some free icons for games...

I would recommend not making your splash screen exactly 457x266. Instead use a larger or smaller resolution as suitable and scale it down/up as needed.
(James, did you try using a splash screen with a different resolution? Looking at the code, there doesn't seem to be any dimensions hardcoded. The logo is centered and scaled to fit the parent. So the size and aspect ratio should both be irrelevant)

Regarding Android/

I think this would end up simply as "OHRRPGCE for Android(TM)" or maybe "Powered by Android" "Games for Android" etc., without the droid logo. We have Bob anyway. (regarding the usage of "games". Am I the only one who seriously considers the OHRRPGCE as a tool for creating other than games?!)

If there's a way to play sfx, hearing the Bob speech sfx would be REALLY neat (as Gaplan mentioned) perhaps at the beginning or end of the splash. As well as that, animation would be good to show that the app is loading, and not hanging or crashed. But I guess we would have to ask someone for help with wrangling that.

This video makes interesting viewing and hopefully shows the importance of priming the audience etc., and also generally great videos about Video Game stuff

Growing up playing playstation 1, I can attest to the power of that start-up screen/sfx having a HUGE impression on me, up to this very day. I still dream about it :p

I would love to see a community effort to amass different logos and splash/startup ideas.

Yeah, that PS intro screen was really something. Few splash screens even begin to approach it.

I'm sure playing a sound effect is doable, but would need some research.
The splash screen could be removed though, there's no need to spend any time loading at all. However it might be a while before I get around to fixing that, it's certainly not trivial to get rid of the loads.

It's amusing that that last icon reads OHRRGCE dwn the side.
Planning to take part in another itch.io jam soon?

Oh, and the logos for game.exe and custom.exe, even if they were acceptable, at waaaay too low resolution, so they look doubly bad...
