The Kobold chef clicks and purrs as it it serves Hyne an omelette with a side of stewed meat from the pot.

There are plenty of places to sit. Most are just sitting on the deck or on the railings.

Dirk glances warily at Hyne, and moves from sitting alone to sit directly between a two other cewmembers and attempts to engage them in conversation.

Tip nods at Hyne when she sees him, but remains focused on the language lesson.

Oxnar has not noticed Hyne yet.

Weisana stands with an untouched omelette on her plate, staring at the Kobold Casino. It won't be possible for anyone else to enter it until at least one of the current patrons has exited. There is laughter coming from inside the casino shack.

Two crewmembers that Hyne has not been introduced to yet are leaning against a railing near where Hyne is standing. One is a burly orc man, the other is a merfolk woman with blue scales and jet black eyes.

"She's a bigger ship, so she's slower, and she will be heavy with supplies and water and things." says the Orc.
"What do you mean, water?" asks the Mer-woman, speaking with a thick accent.
"Like barrels of drinking water" he replies.
"What iss drinking water?" she asks, perplexed.

He heads to the window that peers to the casino and comments to the onlooker, "Anything interesting that happens in that room?"

Standing closer, Hyne gets a better look inside the casino shack.

A feathered Kobold wearing what can only be described as a ceremonial robe is holding a big board with holes drilled in it. Many of the holes are filled with a constellation of colored wooden pegs.

Two humans, one merfolk, and another three Kobolds are all engaged in playing a game. The each have a stack of cards in front of them, face up but partially obscured by piles of coins. A bucket full of 8-sided dice is being passed back and forth as they take turns in some sort of wagering.

The merfolk man throws a handfull of dice into a flat-bottomed bowl, and all the players lean over eagerly too look inside.

The merman groans, and some of the others chuckle.

"Hell's Overflow" says the robed Kobold placidly, "House takes bet plus one rank" and she removes one peg from the wooden board.

"Malestroms!" swears the Merman, moving aside a few silver coins and handing over his topmost card, A Black Five of Axes. Underneath is a red Monk of Trees.

He sighs, "Too rich for my salty blood." he says, gathering up his coins, and pushing the remainder of his cards towards the player on his right.

When Hyne asks if anything interesting is happening in the room, Weisana starts guiltily, and turns her back on the Casino. "Oh! Hi. No. Nothing. I was just... daydreaming." she says to Hyne.

"One seat open!" croaks the robed Kobold, as the merman exits the casino and dives into the water with barely a splash.

Hyne isn't sure what to say, and starts to wonder if Tip told him something the woman probably didn't want others to know. He gives a nod then looks to the room, "Nobody looks like they're enjoying themselves, that's for sure. A lot of money must come and go in that small room."

As the Merman emerges from the water on the opposite side of the ship, Weisana glances back over her shoulder at the casino.

Her hand is in her pocket, and Hyne can hear the sound of a few coins clinking together.

She forces her attention back to Hyne to attend to his comment.

"Oh... I imagine it can't be all that much money. The economy here is isolated and volatile, so they will fix the stakes low, since they probably can't get the banking services that a real casino would have in a city."

clink. clink.

"Open seat!" repeats the robed Kobold.

The Merman pulls himself up the anchor chain, dripping wet. "How can you stand to stay so dry so long" he says to his kin who are practicing with Tip.

"STEY DREY" says one of them, trying to control her accent and laughing at how the words sound.

"Tell me about it" says Tip. "We should do swimming lessons for the land-walkers after we finish Common practice."

"Sometimes a little is a lot for people to lose.. I suppose that's why I never motivated myself to try gambling. I did know someone that was big on the chance games- he was very good at them too. We were all lucky that we didn't play for more than candied mints or nuts. I remember him saying he wanted to make it a living someday."

"Heh. Playing for mints huh? I like that." she takes her hand out of her pocket and refocuses her attention on her omelette. "I doubt we have any candy on the ship though..."

"Open Seat!" the Kobold calls impatiently.

"Come on! We can't play with only four!" whines one of the players.

Dirk stands up, mouth still stuffed with the last bite of his breakfast, and starts moving towards the casino. He is taking a circuitous route so he can approach it from the other side without walking close to Hyne.

A child-sized kobold with blue and white feathers appears on one of the high ladders, and descends quickly to the catwalks that span the cave wall. It moves purposefully towards the ship.

"I bet it's relaxing when you don't have much to lose and not have to keep on your toes every waking moment."

When he spots Dirk moving to take a spot, he almost physically churns in disgust. That man was looking for anything he could bet, and would have tried to bet the crown to make it big- a man doing this knowing that it was something that belonged to another. A vile character that one is.

Weisana smiles and nods in agreement. She seems more relaxed now, and enjoys her food without paying any further attention to the casino.

Inside the shack, the robed Kobold deals Dirk a small stack of cards, and holds out the peg-board, allowing him to add a few pegs to it.

The Kobold child with the blue and white feathers reaches the deck of the ship, and begins poking and tugging random crew-members. "Which one is the storm eel? Is you the storm eel?" it squeaks.

He turns away when his name is heard, "I'm Storm Eel. Is there something you need?"

The little Kobold scurries over and stares up at Hyne.

"Storm eel! Big Captain says he wants your good eyes. Up! Up!"

It points up towards the skylight at the top of the cave.

He perks up then nods, "Ah, very well! Just let me stuff my food into one of my ration tins for later then I'll be right there."

He does that and then will head up to head up to the lookout.

The catwalks and ladders that lead up the cave wall to the skylight might look frail, but they are very well built, and easy to climb.

The topmost ladder extends up from the jagged hole in the rock that makes the skylight, and ends on a wooden platform. The platform is lightly dotted with bird droppings, but someone must keep it clean. It has an oft-scrubbed look to it.

The top surface of Two Bird Island is encrusted with a thick layer of guano. The irregular surface looks like a snowy winter landscape. There are clouds of gulls and other seabirds all around, and their calls fill the air.

The guano has a distinct smell, but it seems rather different than the smell of animal manure, and is much less offensive to the nose.

On one corner of the wooden platform is a very large wooden chest, also scrubbed mostly clean. The Kobold child stretches to open it, and inside Hyne sees a pile of wide-brimmed hats of various styles, and a few pairs of oversized leather boots that seem big enough to slide on over regular shoes.

The Captain and Meleander are visible on a higher ridge of rock, about 50 yards away. Their backs are to Hyne.

Hyne takes one of the large brimmed hat without questioning its purpose but remarks, "I suppose I should wear one of these while I'm out here." Once he changes into the boots as well, he asks the kobold how he can get to where the pair on the ridge are.

"Follow follow!" peeps the little kobold.

It begins leading Hyne across the guano-encrusted rocks. Its tiny feet don't sink into the white mush, but for Hyne it is like hiking through ankle-deep snow.

Birds nested among the irregularities of the rock scatter as they pass, circling overhead before settling back down.

Away to the south end of the island, it looks as if the birds nest so thickly that Hyne can't see the guano underneath, but they are more widely scattered here.

They pass one other Kobold, walking purposefully with a small basket half full of tiny eggs. It doesn't look at Hyne.

When they get closer to the ridge where Captain Crawford and Meleander are standing, the tiny kobold stops, and points out some steps cut into the stone. "Up up!" it says.

Hyne can hear the Captain's voice, but he isn't visible from this angle, and won't be until Hyne climbs the steps.
