Been a long while since I posted an update on this game. Worthy and I are still chipping away at everything. Usually for 2-3 hours on the weekends, but every hour adds up and it's gotten us very far. Our level select system is 100% finished. We're going back in and adding this Megaman inspired death scene for all instances the player dies. He used to just spin around and fall down, much like Link in Zelda and that just didn't make sense after these horrible death robots or fireballs hit him. We've got a few more of these to do, and then we'll be redoing the Wolf boss from scratch.

I think after that Worthy is done and it's just Soda Piggy and me left for production.

In addition to all of that, I'm having Fenrir, who did an amazing job on the main promo art, come back to do the Steam trading cards. We're doing six total, Goujo, Wolf, Trigula, Selekan, Mr. Triangle and the Creator. I can't wait to see these finished, the sketches are already so great.

You're right, it's actually pretty funny. :hurr:

Oh, nice!
Great to hear that you and Worthy are nearing the end of fixing or improving all the mechanical/scripting things that needed fixing or improving. Although you seem to be working on three games at once (well, I guess Batman and Robin was just a short diversion?)
Nice soundtrack too, very appropriate; I didn't comment on that before. Is it complete now?

Soda Piggy still has four songs left, and two of them are going to be timed and scored to a formal intro and ending I need to do. Yeah I am doing multiple projects at once, the bulk of my time is on Axe Cop but I think Maze might be getting a 50/50 split with it soon. The Batman update might be as far as I get this year on that as I need to dedicate a little bit of time to Mr. Triangle's Adventure and some bugfixes there. Yikes!

Reached another big accomplishment, in that the ending with the Creator now has the newest art. I forgot to make the old gif with the old lightning, but you can get the idea that it was garbage before.

Went with a more Wily's Castle meets Castlevania look for the Creator's lab, and those cliffs weren't awful, but they just needed to be freshened up a little bit.

A big improvement!

What's the longterm goal for Batman and Robin? Are there many changes you still want to make on it? At one point I had mistakenly thought you were going to withdraw it entirely, rather than just on Google Play.

Batman & Robin is only on PC and OUYA/Razer right now as it's been removed from Google Play and Amazon Appstore. I have the mentality that since it's sort of, as Fenrir explained in one of the threads, a turning-point game for me as a developer, that it should at least be a little better than when I made it in 2010 and keep it offered for PC. If I spend a few weeks a year on it, that's enough for me. Eventually I want to see it with full sound effects and all of the maptiles and backdrops revisited. That might be a next year thing though. Longterm goal, chip away at it and be ready for like 2020 with a super update for the 10 year anniversary of it.

This is all some really great work going into it. Glad it's almost finished.

More fun before and after pictures. In 2008 or 09 when the game was being developed I was in a ska punk band called the Mark 8's. Worthy and I took turns developing levels and I thought it'd be a fun concept to make 8bit versions of my band for a puzzle. Soda even made a midi-version of one of our songs at the time and it totally ruled. Well... today, that band isn't relevant to me, the song doesn't fit the format of the soundtrack, and I needed to redo the sprites to the new style.

If anybody besides Pepsi Ranger got to the end of MTA, or at least to the Rock n' Roll City segment, they'd know Mr. Triangle reforms his own band, Riot Shape. I talked to Soda and we discussed the musical segment being taken over to be a Soda Piggy band, to sort of pay tribute to him doing the soundtrack. It finally hit me... what if Mr. Triangle was watching his own band without him in it and Soda Piggy was playing in his spot? Soda loved the idea and this is what we have. Gary on lead guitar, Jojo on drums, Soda Piggy on rhythm guitar and Marvin on bass. Same lineup as MTA but swapped out Mr. Triangle.

<img src="https://www.redtrianglegames.com/img/de ... intro1.png">

All intro slides are done. We're going to post that publicly tomorrow, and next week we're actually going to post the intro on the youtube page. Soda Piggy handled all of this over this month and did an amazing job. I think we are pushing our way through to see it finished before end of the year. No promises, but hopefully before 2018 this game will be done.

I hate doing this also, but Fenrir, if you see this, contact me about the Steam trading cards, been trying to reach you in like 3-4 places with no luck. I am hoping to build the store page on Steam soon.

Finally got a good amount of good stuff to share... First up Fenrir is absolutely doing fantastic on these Steam trading cards. He's already halfway done and I'm beyond thrilled how great this style has gone. For anybody interested, the whole bad box-art Mr. Triangle came as a mega surprise to me when I saw it as a cover for Hamster Speak years ago. It's something that always sat with me fondly and the promo art Fenrir did for the game inspired by it was great. I'm so glad that we're doing the cards in that style. Can't say enough great things about how these are turning out.

We also now have the opening sequence 100% done which leads into the game perfectly I think.

Another batch of fun facts... When Mr. Triangle first came around, I was his enemy, and am still the focus of this game, however the role of the "Creator" has since changed from being me to being something else. In Mr. Triangle's Maze, the Creator is simply the master of the maze and is trying to imprison humanity so that he can rule over the world as the self-proclaimed Creator of a new world that he can sculpt in his image. It was a little tough and took months to come up with something requiring little exposition that didn't call for a rework for tons of existing content.

We're getting very near the end of the list of things to do for release. Had a long conversation with Soda the other day and as of this statement I think we're comfortably going to do a January 2018 release. Worthy and myself might be done with all code in the game by months end and then it's just audio from Soda Piggy to do.
