Petrol peers at the inferno. "Well.. assuming there's nothing we can do to save this building, we should probably take a look around and make sure the fire doesn't spread anywhere else." He tries to take an inventory of any buildings nearby and whether or not they're at risk.

Sharn

Sharn scoops up her belongings from the floor, and does a quick search of the room.

The bed is a double, and the sheets and pillow cases are average quality. There are red scales on one of the pillows. There are just dust bunnies under the bed. None of the dresser drawers have anything more interesting than clothes in them. There is a lot of variety in clothing, both men and womens styles.
DM wrote:Sharn's pack is so full that she only has room to steal a couple garments if she wants them, unless she plans to wear them over her current clothes or throw them out the window or something
Sharn looks out the window, and gets a good clear view of the space between the buildings. The side-door is still open. She can see Big Hat Normin by the street, looking up at her.
perception check wrote:d20+INT=17-1=16=Success!
"You should get out of there for Silva's sake!" comes Normin's distant shout. Sharn can also just barely make out some closer voices, in the same building she is in, but can't tell what they are saying.

The blazing roof is easily visible from here, with the tongues of flame a mere 15 or 20 feet above her head. She can feel the radiant heat of the fire on her face. The wall directly above the room Sharn just escaped seems to be slumping slightly, but the rest of the building looks like it is holding together for the moment.

Normin

Just as he shouts, Normin can see Sharn's face peek out the window. It isn't immediately obvious whether or not she can hear him.

Silva lifts Elsinore to a standing position. The sisters embrace, and then start to move away. Elsinore is limping, but whatever Silva gave her obviously helped her a lot. The crowd of bystanders gets out of their way. Most of their eyes are still fixed on the burning roof.

A youth carrying a fat round dog emerges from the front door.

Caldon, Cece, Ebald, Evangeline, Petrol

Of the five firefighters inside the building, only Caldon knows that Sharn was on the 4th floor (when he picked up Elsinore and fell down to the 3rd floor)

Neither Petrol or any of the others have a good vantage point to see the surrounding buildings, but all of you remember what the front of this building looked like to the street. There was a tall narrow building to the west, and a smaller brick-looking building to the east.

DM wrote:I drew Elsinore still on the ground, but actually she and Silva are walking away now. I'm not going to redraw the stick figures ;)

There should probably be more nameless NPCs than that, and their exactly locations are not canon!
Kailyn

The noble appears to be a high-elf. He has bigger sideburns than you are used to seeing on an elf. He wipes the tear off his face and puts his monocle back on.

"Capital! Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Count Kandel. Sit! Sit!"

The noble makes a wordless gesture at a server which apparently means "Two more Sword-Coast Coffees, and make it snappy!" because before Kailyn can even sit himself down, the drinks arrive.
expenses wrote:Your tab is now 10 silver. It would be rude to pay before you are ready to leave.
"My name is Lord Mylar Bentham, of the Old Bakak Benthams". Says the Elf, offering a handshake. "Terrible tragedy, these arsons!"

The Sword-Coast Coffee is strong! The shot of rum is generous. The coffee is served cold, but it has a lot of fresh-ground hot chili powder added in.

There's nothing here worth taking, Sharn assures herself before readying the magic bucket. Sharn uses her fiendishly gifted mage hand to guide the ever flowing bucket over the burning building as best she can. While doing so she attempts to also pour water on Big Hat Normin, accidentally on purpose.

"Sharn, was it? She's still in the building as far as I know. But our concern needs to be with the victims. If she can't take care of herself, then she won't last long in this line of work one way or another."

"Indeed, Lord Bentham, I only wish more could be done to combat the problem. Why, should this chaos continue, who knows what troubles may befall our city!"

Kailyn takes a sip of the drink, savoring the flavor as he does so.

"Correct me if I am wrong though, but I have heard these rumors of some sort of fire-fighting guild being established to combat these arsonists. Unfortunately though, seeing as I haven't really heard much from them, I'm guessing they're having a tough time of things. Not to disparage the valiant guild, but at I'm guessing they're currently understaffed, underfunded, and undertrained by my guess."

The cleric takes another sip of the drink, swirling the coffee around in his cup.

"I just wish I could do something to help them, you know? Noblesse oblige, and all that. Perhaps a fundraiser? I do love a good party, and with these fires everyone could use something to lift their spirits."

Kailyn sighs then, making clear his disappointment and regret.

"But alas, for all my talk, I doubt I have the resources needed to pull off and organize something like that."

Normin

Normin spots a group of six Guild Executioners approaching at a run from down the street.

Silva and Elsinore disappear in between two buildings on the far side of the crowd.

SPLASH! Normin is doused by a gout of water. His hat shields him from a little of it, but mostly he is now soaking wet.

Sharn

Sharn's Mage Hand guides the Bucket up above the edge of the roof, and moves it back and forth.

The fire hisses, and steam plumes up.

A gout of water falls over the edge on Normin. Bull's-eye!

Sharn successfully extinguishes a swath of flames on the westmost edge of the roof. The rest of the roof is still burning merrily.

Caldon, Cece, Ebald, Evangeline, Petrol
Within the next turn, any of you can reach the 5th floor, or the street, or the front doors of either building next to this one

Kailyn

"A fundraiser you say?" Lord Bentham perks up at this. "You might be on to something there, Count Kandel!"

"I was just saying the other day how something needs to be done. That rabble over at the 'Vigil' where the Shortbig House burned down last month has been getting more and more unruly each night, and now, what about the homeless from today's fire? They're going to cause trouble, I'm sure if it. You know their 'type'" Lord Bentham manages to make "air quotes" around the words "Vigil" and "type" without even letting go of his coffee tankard.

"I don't know a blasted thing about this fire-fighting guild, but maybe we could throw a party and raise money for the Executioner's Guild so they can step up policing of the arsonists"

Caldon peers up to the fifth floor. "Without one of those fancy cloaks, the fifth floor is likely a death sentence, but I saw more people up there who I don't believe have exited the building. As for me, I'll scour this floor for anyone who we may have missed."

You'll never kill them with a bit of water, said the voice inside Sharn's head. "Shut up!" She yelled.
Sharn continued to focus on putting out the fire with the bucket as best she could while staying within her mage hand limit.

"The bucket! We steel 'ave a job to do!" Cece races back in, all the way to the fifth floor, grabbing a regular bucket if either of them is still there and had been succesfully refilled by the rabble.

"Mm, quite a refreshing downpour." He pulls the now weighted leather to glance up. "Oh! It seems going down the alley had disoriented me. It didn't occur to me that Sharn is in a different building."

[s]With everyone else still in the building and the person he escorted out no longer inside of it, he decides to head back in. He can take advantage of the new downfall of water to fill his bucket.[/s]

Before going back in, Normin decides to venture down the alley again to see if the suspects are still around or fled, just to be up to date on their whereabouts.

"That is a capital idea, Lord Bentham! And indeed, their type do need to be kept in order, and I suppose it falls upon the more enlightened like ourselves to accomplish this task. And should we do this right, we'll have fewer of those fool arsonists to worry about, and we'll be able to sleep in peace for once."

Kailyn sips his drink once more.

"But to organize such a thing, if we were to invite representatives of the Executioner's Guild as well as this new fire fighting guild, wherever they may be, we would need a large area to accommodate the aristocracy as well. And we'll need to do it someplace central, someplace prominent. I wonder if we could get in touch with the Low Mayor, surely something of such import and potential renown would be of interest to him."

"There are still people trapped in there... Looks like I better put this cloak to good use." Ebald thinks before hurrying back into the building and making it up to the 5th floor.

Petrol fidgets uncomfortably at the notion of going back into the burning building. With a sigh, he would pick up his bucket from before (still unused) and follow after Ebald and Cece.

Caldon

Caldon scours the second floor for any people they might have missed.

He sees a lot of doors ajar, and some bits of clothes and small luggage that people dropped in the halls as they evacuated. He doesn't spot any signs of activity until he reaches the northwest corner of the building.

A green-skinned man is half crawling half scooting along the hallway, pushing a row of 5 wooden casks ahead of him. He mutters "My babies! my sweet, sweet babies! I won't let any thing happen to any of you."

There is a pile of similar casks clogging the doorway to the east stairwell.

Cece and Ebald and Evangeline and Petrol

Four of the firefighters hurry up the stairs to the 5th floor.

It is immediately very hot and smoky up here.

Cece and Petrol both feel the heat strongly. If they remain up here for too long, they are in real danger.

Ebald and Evangeline can tell that the air is hot, but they both feel comfortable. They can see and smell the smoke, but with the hood up, they feel as if they can breath just fine.

The roof is bathed in flames, and they are creeping down the walls.

The floor looks... bad. It looks as if the floor was already bad long before the fire started. Planks are missing and broken everywhere. Most of the apartments on this floor gape open, their doors completely missing from their hinges.

One final flight of stairs runs upward from the 5th floor. It is much narrower than the regular stairs. This must lead to the roof, but it looks hellish up there.

Normin

Normin slips back down the alley, prepared to again blend in to the hat mural like a chameleon as soon as he rounds the corner

THUMP CRUNCH

The red-bearded dwelf trips right over Normin, and tumbles on the ground.

"What in all the hells!?" he bellows as he face-plants. He doesn't seem to see Normin at all.

He pulls himself up and moves through the alley, towards the street and the front of the building. He seems distracted between his scrapes and bruises and the water that is raining down from above.

Sharn

Sharn continues dousing the building, but the Mage Hand is already near its maximum range. She continues pouring water on the rooftop, but most of the flames remain frustratingly out of reach from this vantage point.

Sharn can hear a voice through the wall in the next room exclaim "Look! Honey! It's raining! It's a miracle!"

Kailyn

Lord Bentham guffaws good naturally. "Oh, Sands, No! Don't get any of the Low Mayors involved!"

He takes another draw of his coffee and continues, "Etna Corngood is the only one of the lot who is worth half a damn, and if she gets wind of the idea she'll want to take over the whole idea and claim it was hers. No, sure we can invite the Low Mayors, but we don't want them tangled up in planning it."

"I say we do the whole thing ourselves. We could rent out the top floor of Cuisine Of The Sky. I'm good friends with the manager there, and if we hold it there, the Lord Treasurer is sure to attend, and if he shows up, ALL the Old-Money Families will have to be there too."
