SS has been rather quiet lately, which I take as a sign that we are all working diligently on our entries for HotOHR.
Who is excited for next week? This is like Christmas for me! I'm looking forward to seeing all the hard work that everyone has put in over the past few months.
So let's generate some hype, with a fun questionnaire regarding your game:
What is the setting of your game?
What is the "tone" of your game?
What's something you think your game does that is unique?
What is a challenge you faced during this contest?
What is something you've learned from creating this game?
What are your hopes from this contest?
Describe your game to me in 3 words or less:
> What is the setting of your game?
A nonsensical fantasy world featuring random bits of things that are less nonsensical.
> What is the "tone" of your game?
More silly than serious, although I guess it gets sorta dark at times. Lots of bright colours.
> What's something you think your game does that is unique?
It has a colour-based type matchup system, harvestable plants that regrow over time, and it takes place in a made-up nonsense realm that my friend and I accidentally created over the last few years. Game Maker is a dangerous tool.
> What is a challenge you faced during this contest?
Getting the game finished in time. I have a habit of starting games and then abandoning them, and this was no exception. The majority of the development was done in a span of something like 2 weeks. Motivation is haaaaaaard.
> What is something you've learned from creating this game?
2 months is way shorter than I thought. Also, balancing an RPG isn't very fun.
> What are your hopes from this contest?
To get some feedback, improve my skillset, and play some wicked awesome games!
> Describe your game to me in 3 words or less:
Red Blueberries.
What is the setting of your game? A tropical island town.
What is the "tone" of your game? Definitely light-hearted.
What's something you think your game does that is unique? Makes full use of the OHR's ability to use the player's system clock.
What is a challenge you faced during this contest? Learning a lot of new scripting commands, the right way to make them work and amplifying organization skills.
What is something you've learned from creating this game? That after 13 years, I still have a lot of fun immersing myself in this hobby.
What are your hopes from this contest? That enough people will see the work people put in and be passionate enough to work on and finish their own projects.
Describe your game to me in 3 words or less: Active Surfing Dinosaur
My game is Surfasaurus. Anybody that's interested can get it on Google Play, Amazon Appstore or PC.
What is the setting of your game?
A relatively modern setting, most of the demo takes place in the suburbs and some nature trails. The area the demo takes place in was mainly based on the area I grew up in (Except I did not live in the woods like the MC does). Later parts of the game will have more diverse yet still believably contemporary settings.
What is the "tone" of your game?
I'd say it's mostly comedic. There are strange, sometimes crude jokes and observations made by the MC all throughout the game and the enemies (random encounters and human bosses alike) are relatively silly. However, there will still be some serious moments, likely later in the game.
What's something you think your game does that is unique?
Err, I'd say the only thing is the rooms in dungeons where you can chat with your other party members. It was something I saw in Persona 1 and 2 that I thought might be fun to put in my game, and I also wanted to provide banter to help develop the characters further.
What is a challenge you faced during this contest?
Scripting, I had no clue what I was doing half the time and the early cut scenes were pretty awkward. Also coming up with halfway decent graphics.
What is something you've learned from creating this game?
More in depth engine knowlege
What are your hopes from this contest?
Get my name out there and show people that I'm capable of doing things. Or at least capable of making something better than Towers of Love and Energy. Also to get feedback for the direction of the rest of the project.
