If I may speak against youtube...

Talk about things that are not making games here. But you should also make games!

Yesterday I tried to post a youtube comment for the first time in many months.

It caused my browser tab to completely freeze up. I had to eventually give up and close the tab without commenting.

I am okay with this.

In fact, it might be the best comment-related feature google has rolled out since they bought youtube!

Now they have Feather Beta, which gets rid of comments altogether!

Dear Youtube,

Just....why? Having to press play on each video on a playlist is nearly the complete opposite idea of what playlists are for.

With spite,
Meowskivich

Okay, just to make sure it's not just me, and not just this playlist:

Can someone PLEASE spend some time on youtube watching videos in various playlists? I can provide you with examples, if you want.

The playlist just sort of started making me press play on each video after about 4 or 5 videos.

Seems it may be just you... I tried the linked playlist and the next video in que played fine. I watch playlists frequently with success on a daily basis.

I do too, but...weird...
To be honest, it stopped about an hour ago. Maybe youtube messed something up and then fixed it? I dunno, I'm just happy it's back to normal.

And speaking of back to normal, I finally got episode 4 of my Minecraft series up, though I had to cut it in twain before it successfully uploaded. That's on Dailymotion, not the tube. On the tube, I erased a lot of my LPs on it. I can link to my dailymotion, if you're interested.

Are your Let's Plays gone because of the mass takedowns Youtube is currently doing automatically?

nnnnnnnnnnnnnot directly.
I've mostly taken down a bunch just because I don't want anything of mine on youtube, really. Secondarily was because of obnoxious copyright claims for my gaming videos having gaming music in them. So instead of opting to get my videos with mandatory ads in them (which is not exactly something that should be a thing without me, or insert your afflicted content creator here, getting a cut of the pay as well), I just said "oh, you want to strike at me, huh? well, less content for you".

May sound stupid, one bee rebelling against the queen, right? But if enough people are pushed away from youtube, they're in trouble. Blah blah blah, basic business logic, blah.

edit: Though you can always go to http://www.dailymotion.com/meowskivich to watch my new stuff, which is better in quality, though no music because I don't want to be hunted down by lawyer ninjas and sued to death in my sleep. Well, no music unless I own it in one fashion or another, as in I made it or a friend did and gave me permission to use it.
Now that I've fixed my issues I've had with uploading lately, I'll be uploading on a regular schedule again. Starting next week, that is. I have one more Final to do along with a lot of catch up in my programming class.

After all, who DOESN'T want to see my oh-so joyous blind LP of Sonic Adventure 2?

I sure hope you guys don't really do this.

Except I often don't show off everything and I expressly tell people to buy the game and where they can get it on what system, or steam if the case may be, but I mostly did FREE games anyway, and STILL had strikes against me.

And yes, the content creator, if having commentated, no matter the quality, should get a cut of the pay because HE/SHE/IT took the time to show off this company's game, essentially FREE ADVERTISING, and it has the original content of THEIR commentary.
I mean, there's people that literally get paid to do this sort of thing on gaming channels, not just in 'murica, but even other countries like Japan and England. Essentially, these people are just doing the same thing with less production value and for free....well, a lot for free, there are those who are youtube partners.
The game companies are essentially picking on the "little guys" without big bad lawyers to back them up.

And as to the average person tending to show off 100% of the game and rendering the game "pointless to purchase" otherwise, I honestly have issues with those sort of people to begin with, but there more to video games than just SEEING someone play them. You have to experience them yourself. I tend to us LPs of games I've never played to see if I should get them or not. And even then, I honestly don't pay much attention as to what's going on in the videos anyway, I listen for the commentary.

I'm not saying the creator should get 100% pay, as the footage taken of video games without the company's/creator's permission is legally ambiguous as is, the pay should be split appropriately. End of story. I mean, how would you like it if you suggested, say, a book to a friend and then the publisher of the book forcibly slaps a huge billboard in your front-lawn advertising their latest products? And the city PAYS them to do it?! That's a poor analogy of what this sort of is.

edit:
I don't think I mentioned this, so I am just to make things clear, I'm not saying that ads SHOULDN'T be put in for game companies, I'm saying that the ads shouldn't be put in without the content creator getting a cut of the pay.

The first big fish has jumped into another lake.

You guys know Mark with his channel Classic Game Room? He always reviews games and consoles in short videos with a very good sense of humour. Now he was so angry of the new youtube system, he left the plattform and uploaded his videos on Dailymotion. You can also see all of his videos on his own website. That was a very brave move. Hopefully his 330.000 suscribers will still support him.

And I have something to tell you about Lets Plays and their effect on buying computer games.
I have watched a complete Lets Play of the German adventure game "Edna bricht aus" made by Deadalic. This was so funny that I decided to buy this game afterwards and play through it again. I'm not satisfied that I spoiled my whole gaming experience with that, because I knew the tricks and hidden objects of the game. But fortuneatly I didn't watched any LP anymore, because I bought two more games from Deadalic and they were both great (playing through without spoilering).
That LP made the developer Deadalic known to me.

EXACTLY! That's how I've found all sorts of classics or have made decisions on whether or not to buy a game, like Dragon Spirit and Abadox, or even Terraria (though that was with an adventure map I saw someone play).

Also, thank you for the links :D
