Minecraft Server

I took the liberty of setting up a minecraft server as was suggested.
I thought about using the old OHR minecraft server data, but decided against it opting instead for a blank canvas.
It's currently setup to support 20 people at once. I can raise that if it's an issue, but it seems like a lot.
I'm not sure how much use the server will see, but I hope it's enjoyed.

Server is great, sometimes it even doesnt lag
so far we've build a nether portal and there are villagers in reserve in case zombie raids wipe them all, use them wisely

I'd love to come back other time, thank you Spoon for setting the thing up

I would have preferred James' old world. Being a sucker for nostalgia and for history I just can't discard the thousands (tens of thousands?) of hours we put into it. (I actually have a backup of it from 2014; I should get a current copy). I might have turned up for that, but I've been Minecraft-clean for half a decade now and why break such a good streak?

I'm pleased to hear James still plays it locally though. A piece of our past lives that isn't dead.

LOL

I was trying to figure out if there was an issue with the monster spawns and if there was something I could do about it.
Having 12+ skeletons hanging out at worldspawn was becoming a huge issue.
I noticed they had all but wiped the villagers clean from the nearby town, so I spawned a few more.
And I was trying various light sources to see if any of them actually helped more, which they did not.
So I went back to crafting torches and scattering them around big time.

Yea I got the sense that a lot of people wanted this new server.
Considering the amount of people that have already been working on it, I think we'll keep it as it is.

TMC had the plan of inserting the old map on the edge of the current map.
I think this sounds fun, so if you would like to send the old map files over I'll plug them into the new server.

Also!
If you've played the new server you'll have noticed a bit of lag.
At first I thought this was the level of package I purchased.
However, it seems to be the host.
So, after I get the old map files and setup a plan to combine the maps, I'll announce a day / time when the server will go down, and there will be a new server IP at that time.

Spoonweaver I just sent you copy of the world in a dropbox link.

If you are looking for a new server, the last one I used was https://spartanhost.org/ and they were quite good, and reasonably priced. That was a few years ago, so your mileage may vary :D

The last time I tried merging features from a world, I used WorldEdit to copy and paste from one world to another.... however, the old world is so ridiculously huge, I don't know if that is actually going to work or not.

It might be easier to copy-paste the new world into the old world, then change the combined world's "seed" to match the new world, and update the spawn point to the correct location for the new world.

Oh, could I have that link too? My backup of the world is 7 years old, but I have the ambition to someday update Blockworks.

For Blockworks I used the pymclevel library, which is what MCEdit is built on. It has a function, pymclevel.block_copy.copyBlocksFrom() to copy one world into another, which is personally what I would use instead of a GUI. (MCEdit's Import tool documentation says "Constructions of up to 64 million blocks should take less than a minute [to import]" but that's alarming because I'd guess based on filesize that the world is billions of blocks.)

Sent!

And yes, using a library instead of a GUI copy/paste does sound like a *way* better plan :D

I DID IT!
THE MAPS ARE MERGED IN THE BEST WAY!

I also upgraded the server so there shouldn't be as much lag!!!

NEW SERVER IP
142.4.215.143:2313

Only the port has changed, the old server is still completely intact and untouched (just in case)

There is a portal made of bedrock that leads to the old ohr server behind the lava dirt castle next to world spawn.

With a new IP address comes a new wish right?
