It seemed like no time at all before the world came back into focus. Dazed and confused, the party looked out over the hillside they had just arrived on at the town of Perigon.
It was still early in the day, and the party could see the moving and shaking of the town. A large cathedral towered over the other things in this town. Though the town was bigger than Mouline or Cordeliers, it was still under developed and lacked the large stone walls and tall buildings of Vyones. Many of the small buildings here seemed to have thatch roofs and only a handful of them were more than one story, with only the cathedral passing three stories. The black cathedral itself was topped with a massive black spire in the middle that came to a sharp looking point at the top. It sat right in the middle of the town, a black spot in the otherwise hay, mud, and stone colored town.
"Somewhere in that town, The Beast of Averoigne has The Ring of Eibon. Azedarac has hidden his true appearance though. It could be anyone. However, I have been searching and have narrowed it down to one of the monks in the cathedral. It may be possible to obtain the ring without fighting the beast, but it may not. In any case, the beast will come tomorrow morning. He should be easy to find then. I was hoping to do this myself, but if the time warp occurs the beast will not appear for months and it's appearance and station in town will change yet again. I will need to remain here to prevent the time warp from affecting the town. Once you have the ring, bring it straight to me. I will need to enchant it so that it is not affected by this time warp," said Dan as he looked out over the town. His gaze seemed very distant.

"One of the monks, could be anyone. A ring, could look like anything. Don't figure there's any way to tell, is there?" Harvey says, already sizing the place for vantage points and hiding spots. If there's no way to tell, a lot of people are gonna die today. He grins.

"Most interesting. Perhaps we might do some reconnaissance? Alternatively, we could always just try storming the place, but I would rather avoid such direct confrontation. Still, should the need arise, we'd best be ready, I suppose."
Kalar focuses on his holy symbol, channeling power into himself, arming himself for whatever might come.

"So you are saying the Beast is disguised as one of the Monks, and we have to find them, and beg, borrow, steal, or take the Ring by force?"
"And we have to do it before tomorrow?"

"Do you know what sort of military this place has? Further, just what exactly is this 'beast'? If we are to destroy it to get the ring, we should at least have as much information as possible as to what we're up against. The last great beast we fought nearly killed us, and I want to go into this battle with every advantage possible."

Squinting into the distance, Harvey reaches for something that isn't there. Heheh, that was Daryl. Shoulda taken his stuff. "If only we had a spyglass.."

"...And does the disguised beast know we are coming? Might it just avoid us if we charge in there openly?"

Harvey continues to appraise the job at hand. "Narrowed it down, hehehe.. how'd you do that?" Harvey's eyes roam over Dan suspiciously, but also curiously. Maybe he hasn't had a chance to say, but there's something he's not sharing. That's how people get killed.

Lynda puts her amulet back on.
"Blast that Jehan...again. Now I'm confined to this thing. How am I going to get a wish? If the final confrontations of this business are coming up, I'd rather not be confined to this antimagic amulet any more. I finally acquired a holy symbol as well."

"A million questions as always," Dan says. "Azadarac's inquisition dwells within that large black catherdral. They are the main guards of the town. The beast himself is a massive monster similiar to a dragon. It's resistant to most types of magic and, like Lynda and myself, can reach into the ethereal plane. It's truely a monsterious beast. You've seen it before Rob. You just don't remeber. Perhaps you will after I protect you from the time warp."
Dan turns to Lynda then, leaving Rob to think about his words, "You, I'm afraid, I can't personally help. Perhaps someone else can, I'm not sure."

Harvey gives Dan a last glare, sure that there's something still left unsaid. But there's no time for that now. A slimy job is better than no job. After Jehan, it'll be fun to fight regular moron guards, hehe.. that's the spirit.
"Since it's the Inquisition, there's things I know you don't." he says to his new friends. "Whatever ya been doin, you're doin it right. Azedarc's been watchin. Said so himself. Also told some big guy all about what happened the last time someone tried to break the curse. Azedarc was there personally, but that's not important now. What is important is their mirrors."
"Jehan was spyin' on you through a mirror. It's how he teleported onto your trail and how I teleported onto his. Heheh, that was a good day. Anyway, maybe they got one of 'em, maybe they got a bunch, but let's smash any mirrors just in case. They wanna see the show, they gotta buy a ticket, get it? You never know when they could be watchin.. let's assume they know where we are."
His eyes aren't focusing on the scene in front of him, but on the different scenarios he envisions in his mind. "If he's wearing the ring, we gotta kill him. No buts about it. But maybe he's too big to wear the ring.. maybe he leaves it somewhere safe.. not safe enough, most likely, heh heh. Could get it without harmin' a fly." though in his mind he shoots a monk just for the hell of it.
"I know it's disguised, but it'd still look like a ring, wouldn't it? Gonna be real hard if it's disguised as a grain of sand, or a two ton rock or somethin'."
"And this is still a town, isn't it? Can't figure they'd bump off strangers just for payin a visit.. otherwise why keep the town at all? Could disguise the whole damn place."
"No tellin' from up here, anyway. We'll need a closer look."
Harvey takes a moment to regain his focus and then goes out further on the hillside and surveils the area, trying to find a way to approach the town unobserved. It's a long shot without walls, but even a closer candid view of the town and their practices could be useful.
"No time for waitin'." he sighs. Sneaky path or not, he'll soon after begin a cautious approach of the town, looking for any interruption in the normal flow of business and not yet ready to actually enter the town. Wish there was time to bag a couple squirrels.. just your friendly local squirrel hunter, passin through! Oh well..

"Okay, we need a closer look." agrees Rob.
"Kalar, any idea how we could get your army of scary monsters into the tower where they could be useful, without causing a panic in the city? Or would you rather have them hide somewhere outside the city? Any way I can make my teleporting ability useful?"
Rob is puzzled by what his father said about the time warp, and how it might affect him, but he chooses to push it to the back of his mind.

"I would advise against a direct assault of the town with your undead army here," advised Dan. "Keep them close, in case you need them or in case the beast ends up showing itself. However, the inquisition should not be taken lightly. The normal agents are weak, but there should be a few of the leaders here. The ones wearing the amulets are very powerful. Also, if anyone should learn of our purpose here, Azedarac himself, along with Jehan and all his more faithful generals, will likely appear." Dan turned towards Harvey, stopping him only for a moment by saying, "The ring will always be a black ring. I've also noticed that the beast always seems to be a short male." With that he offers no more advise to Harvey who continues towards town.
Dan began preparing something arcane on the ground then. "I need time to get started here. If you have any more questions ask them now, I'll need to prepare several symbols around the town if I'm going to protect it and I should get started now."
"Rob, last chance for me to protect you from the time warp before I leave. It's a risky spell, some of the locals I have cast it on have gone insane, or rapidly aged into dust. It's your choice to make, what will it be?" Dan paused what he was doing and looked up towards Rob then, who had already begun to follow after Harvey towards town.

Harvey turns around, flashing the souvenir patch of Jehan's armor he'd taken. "We won't need to worry about ol' Jehan. Seems Averogne's got a new deadliest assassin. We'll go get that ring for you."
Knowing that the generals are in town makes a difference. They probably would recognize the group and what they're up to. Still need that closer look, but it's a more cautious look now. Someone might be lookin back.

"Well, if Jehan knows about this, then why don't we ask him?" Kalar gestures towards the body he's been dragging around. "The Beast is set to appear tomorrow morning. Come midnight, I can ask Jehan questions about the Beast, such as how to identify it or where the ring is hidden. In the meantime though, I do believe that Harvey is on the right track and we should gather as much information as possible."
He looks at Dan and says, "Final question, are you aware of any divine magic users down in the cathedral? I would rather not have to tangle with one unless absolutely necessary."
