Rachelle, somewhat unnerved by the shadowy figure outside, puts the thought aside for the time being and picks up The Sublime Codex of Duna. It feels appropriate to learn more about how magic items tick, now that she has a pretty potent one on hand herself.

Kalar puts his book away and picks up the The Fiendish Incunabulum of Gamin. He looks around the room for a mirror to open it, but failing that, he'll attempt to use the windows as a reflective surface in order to open it. Should he manage to open it, he'll begin reading the book. If he fails to open it, he'll randomly pick one of the books that aren't being read and read that instead.

Lynda finds the erin slates equally as unreadable as before. She settles on the The Grimoire of Ukrad. Rachelle finds her book interesting right away. The chapter on legacy weapons has a very familiar looking staff illustrated near it's heading. She reads on, trying to learn everything she can.

As Kalar holds The Fiendish Incunabulum of Gamin up to the window, he catches a glimpse of someone in all black leather. It's Jehan, the man he met in the tavern the night before the colossus attacked. Jehan quickly reentered the shadows, disappearing.

Kalar moves to the others' rooms and wakes those who aren't sleeping.

"Right lads, spotted that Jehan fellow outside the window. He's gone back into hiding, but we should expect another encounter soon. At the very least, he'll certainly try to attack us as soon as we leave the town.

"Now, ideas? Leave now? Or wait for morning? I can shroud us in darkness for now, chances are he won't be able to see through it, giving us a bit of cover. It will be risky though, as none of you will be able to see either."

"Of course. We can't even relax peacefully, lest we be shadowed by that snake Azedarc has employed...I don't know how we should deal with this. I feel like leaving in the night is a bad idea. I feel somewhat safer in the inn, and perhaps we can wait till day breaks before we attempt to get out of here."

Lynda resumes reading her Grimoire.

"Yeah, if he wants us, he can come in here" Rob says. "And if he brought friends, we can escape with my Cape of the Mountebank."

"I am unsure if that can indeed take all of us, but should the need arise, both Lynda and I can fly. With the darkness I am able to generate, I should be able to move relatively unseen. Still, I suggest we all return to our rooms and keep an eye out. Alternatively, we can all move to a single room together and I'll keep watch during the night."

Rob ponders the logistics of trying to sneak Stumpy into his room.

The tired innkeeper finishes cleaning the nights dirty glasses and runs a hand across his old, smooth head.

"Boy," he thinks to himself, a years old memory coming back for no reason. "I hope nobody tries to sneak a horse in here tonight."

The Innkeeper was deep in thought as a shadowy figure slipped inside.
The knock that came from the room the adventurers had gathered in was loud and hard. It was followed by three softer taps.

"I am guessing none of you requested the innkeeper to bring up a bedtime snack?" Rob says suspiciously.

"...Well I'll be damned. Guess I underestimated him." Lynda says. "I don't suppose he'll discuss things civilly over a cup of tea?"

"I have my doubts as to whether that is our good host. If you are going to open the door, then be ready to kill him as soon as the opportunity presents itself."

Kalar gets ready to cover the room in darkness at the very first sign of hostility. He also channels divine energy into himself, readying himself for whatever comes next. He focuses on looking through the door, attempting to pick up the surface thoughts of whoever is knocking.

"Might as well." Lynda says. "He clearly isn't going to leave us alone. Everyone, get ready."

Lynda approaches the door, and unlocks it.

"Come in, my dear!" She says jubilantly. She then steps away from the door, still facing towards it.

No one comes in and Kalar detects no thoughts are read on the other side of the door. No further knocking occurs.
