"Look around, see if you can spot anything that looks like a holy symbol or something similar. The effect might be tied to that."
Kalar turns to Rob and says, "Do you still have those glasses that can detect magic? She might be able to use them to look around the area for whatever might be causing whatever it is that's happening."

"Oh, yes here they are!" Rob says, offering the glasses.
"Maybe there is some kind of anti-necromancy field?" Rob suggests. "I notice that my Mage Hand spell worked just fine in there. Rachelle, what do you see in there?"
Rob glances at Kalar. "That sword isn't necromantic, is it? Can she carry it in there to sweep for traps?"

"Well, no, it's not powered by necromancy so it should work fine there. However, there might still be a chance that it might attempt to possess the user. I've never actually released my hold on it at any time, as it's been in my glove of storing when not in use, so I am not sure if it attempts to possess you every chance it gets, or only when you hold it for the first time. If Rachelle is willing to risk using it, then by all means she may. Just so long as she knows the risks involved."

"Oh, that sounds risky. Try the glasses first" Rob takes half a step into the room with his arm extended, holding out the glasses to Rachelle

Rachelle takes the glasses and has a look around the room. The sword she refuses, as the potential risk of it taking over her seems not to be worth the benefits right now.
...the idea of putting Kalar on a rope and pushing him into the undead-disabling room just to see what happens comes to Rachelle's mind.

Rachelle sees a strong aura of necromancy coming from ceiling. Nothing else in the room seems magical.

Rachelle retreats out of the room, then takes out her 10 foot pole and pokes the ceiling of the undead-disabling room from the safety of outside it.
"Do we know if this room is under anything on the surface?" she asks.

"Not that I know of. As far as we saw, it was just ruins. What do you see on the ceiling? Any markings, inscriptions, or similar?"

Nothing happens as Rachelle prods the ceiling with her pole. The ceiling seems to be blank at first glance, free of inscriptions or markings.

"Right, let me try something."
Kalar holds out his holy symbol, gathering divine energy into it. He then sends out a blast of power, attempting to dispel whatever magic is in the room.

Kalar can feel that his attempt failed. He thought about the casting of his spell and the strength of the effect that opposed it. He wonders if he had focused more if he could have succeeded.

"Right, that didn't work. Let me try something else."
Kalar holds out his holy symbol again, focusing even more divine energy into it. He strains with the effort, and then releases the power into the room, forcing the surrounding walls to shape themselves together, forming a new partially domed ceiling that covers and blocks the old one. He makes sure to not obstruct any of the doors, keeping the new ceiling close to the old one but with at least a few inches of space between.
When finished, he ties the rope to another skeleton and orders it to venture into the room to test if the effect has been blocked.
Spell used: Wall of stone (clr 5)
Wall thickness: 2 inches
Wall area: 5 ft. square × 9

Kalar creates a new ceiling. After a quick couple of checks with one of his skeletal minions, it seems the effect is subdued.

"That should do it. It might still be dangerous for me to enter, what with that symbol there. I'll have my minions carry valuables back to the wagon, but I would appreciate it if the rest of you were to explore the room as well. Skeletal minions aren't exactly the smartest, and sapient eyes might see things that they would miss. Might also be a good idea to try figuring out how to open that other door."
Kalar orders his minions to do what he previously intended them to do: carry out the paintings back to the wagon and move the dresser and wardrobe into the hall for closer inspection.

Voulton finally enters the room and looks around, not sure what the big deal had been.
