"Pleased to meet you, Christophe. We have to treat people who try to rob us this way, in order to survive, We are not bad people, I hope you understand."
She waits to see if Kalar or any of the others have questions.

"No no, we're not like that." Lynda says. "Our friend here isn't a werewolf by choice, nor would he go around infecting others willy nilly." Lynda says to Christophe. Lynda leaves out the part where Kalar did have to chose to become a werewolf to save himself from being a dog, but that's besides the point.
"While we are on the subject, why is magic so...abhorred around here? Did something happen that caused this ban?" Lynda asks him.

"Werewolves normally don't come this far north. I've only ever seen one, once before. I ran away from it as fast as I could," says Christophe. "Magic is seen as evil and was banned hundreds of years ago by our bishop. Magic was the cause of us all being stuck here. How don't you know this? If you're from the castle, you're more of an outsider than I am."

Rachelle, riding her horse, had accidentally let herself get lost in thought; finally being in some proper woods after even a few days in that castle had made her feel even further away from home than ever, and she found her thoughts drifting towards there constantly. She couldn't say she liked quite a few people there - certainly there were several who would be overjoyed to see her come back still petrified - but even then, she had spent enough of her life there for it to exert a gravitational pull on her.
Certainly she needed to make sure she brought back some art from this cloistered nation, lest she be made a laughingstock for missing the opportunity of a lifetime.
By the time she noticed that the group had been surrounded, the group was... no longer surrounded, and in fact two of the magicians were in the middle of the group, being interrogated. Upon hearing Christophe's answer to Voulton's question, she was somewhat confused about, well, the group's entire existence, and decided to get off her horse and ask a question herself:
"So why exactly would you start practicing magic if this is the sort of life you can look forward to?"

Kalar, finally having recovered mentally from his little bout with the more primal and savage nature of his curse, decides to ask a few questions.
"In addition, how many of you are there?"
Kalar thinks about his next question a bit.
"Also, you say you are forced to do this in order to survive. I must point out though, that should you keep this up, you're very likely to run into people who are not quite as... lenient... as we are. A proposal then. Your group works for us. We feed you, we let you travel with us, and we protect you. But in exchange, you work for us, you do what we say. We will not send you needlessly into danger, but we have been acting blind through much of our ordeal, and it would be a refreshing change of pace to have people working for us who know this land. Of course, should you refuse, I believe I will be forced to do something I will not enjoy."
It's the absolute truth, but Kalar conveniently leaves out the part that the thing he will not enjoy is letting them go. Instead, he prefers to allow the man's imagination to go wild with all sorts of thoughts of torture.

"We believe magic is the only way to break this curse. We all study the ancient scrolls in the lost library hoping one of gains enough knowledge to break this wicked curse on the land." The man stands and dusts himself off. "I'm afraid I'll have to turn down your offer. We already have a leader, and he's not a werewolf." The last part comes off as a bit holy than thou.
The other man wakes up shortly after the other stands up and dusts himself off. He hurries to his feet and stands at Christophe's side.

"Really now? Who is this leader of yours? And also, might I ask, does this leader of yours already know of the four items needed to break this curse? We know of all of them."
Not a lie, as the party does indeed know -about- them, just not exactly how to get them.
"In addition, does your leader even know how to find these items? Think about it man, your leader has you running around in the woods, wearing robes, and trying to rob people just to survive. You're mucking about in dusty old libraries trying to find clues that we already know of. You're starving and risking your lives robbing people in order to survive long enough to break this curse while we're sitting here, eating well and already on our way to gathering everything we need to break the same curse you're trying to break. In what world does it make any sort of sense for you to not work for us?"
Kalar is getting a bit angry, the previous actions coloring his words now. He takes a breath to steady himself, then continues.
"If you want to continue serving your leader, then go and bring him here. If he really has your best interests at heart, and is not just using you, then none of you should have any sort of reason to not come with us."

"I heard you the first time and I won't reveal that nor will I bring our leader here." The other robed man looks at Christophe with questioning terror. Christophe holds up a hand as an attempt to calm the man. "What are these items you're talking about? I've never heard of such a thing. What has led you think you know more than the ancient scrolls?"

"If you're not going to serve us, then why should I provide you with that information? You want to know about them, you sign on with us. And really, what possible reason could you have for not joining us? Everything would be better for you. No dangerous encounters with people like us, a steady supply of food, the chance to actually break this curse instead of mucking about like you're doing now, safety in numbers, everything. So what is it? What hold does he have on you?"
