Hi guys!
Who was it that mentioned Tekkit once before? I'm sorry I ignored you! I finally got around to giving it a try, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's still kind of hard to wrap my head around all this electrical engineering and machinery, and I spent half my time alt-tabbing to the game's online wiki, but nonetheless it's been pretty awesome so far.

I went into Creative mode to make a temple out of marble! Check it out!

Tekkit is a humongous addition to the basics of Minecraft that almost completely leaves the vanilla elements untouched, aside from the world generator spawning in a bunch of new metals and other things, like rubber trees, oil springs, and volcanoes. If you'd like, you can ignore all the extra stuff and still play Minecraft normally. Use what you want from the mod! You don't have to get into all this advanced machinery mumbo-jumbo, maybe you just want to take advantage of the cool new weapons you can craft, like the Knife, which is extremely easy to craft even without a crafting table handy and can be thrown a short distance, or the Warhammer, which deals big damage, big knockback, and can alt-fire to strike the ground with a splash damage effect, or even deadly firearms like a Crossbow and Musket!
There's also an absolutely ridiculous amount of half-block and semi-block options, which are mostly useful while in Creative mode, but can be accessed in Survival with a particular tool. Make your structures more elaborate than ever! I demonstrated some of these semi-blocks above, with Pillars, Slabs (which can be placed vertically), and Corner bits, but I only used the thickest setting available. There are three levels of thinness you can use if you love precise details!

I'm just scratching the surface here, this mod is so big that it merits its own thread and its own sever. I won't ask you all to perform a mass exodus from vanilla Minecraft to Tekkit (it took months for me to cave in and download the mod), but if you happen to be bored and looking for a brand new Minecraft experience, give this mod a try. Well, it's not just a mod, it's much more than that. It's a big ol' BUNDLE of mods that operates completely separate from vanilla Minecraft, with its own folder, its own saves, and its own executable java file that all operate independently of whatever Minecraft you're playing right now. If you were worried about Tekkit "replacing" your regular Minecraft, worry not.

You can download it here, but only if you have the latest Java. I had to run an installer, receive some kind of directory error, ignore said error, then look in my Roaming appdata folder for the tekkit launcher folder and continue the setup from there. After that I had little trouble.

Oh, one more thing. Hey James! Remember that ComputerCraft mod you were interested in a while back? That's included by default with Tekkit. As an interesting bonus, you can find Floppy Disks pre-loaded with basic programs as Dungeon loot! I thought that was awesome, though I've yet to try it to see if it works.

My luck. Sucks.

Lost my Enchanted Diamond pick and stuff.
I hate my luck.
I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT.

This friggin server has killed me in so many ways ever since I started!
From Creepers exploding, Spiders killing me, Skeletons sniping me, Lag deaths, falling through my island and dying, falling in lava, ghast attacks, blazes, burning to death, drowning, falling, suffocating, zombies, you name it, it's killed me.

WHY DOES THIS SERVER HATE ME?! WHY!!!

Your lose does not at all stand in comparison to mine. And due to this is pretty the reason why I can't have heart enough to do anything in the server anymore other than just jump in and chat with whoever happens to be on. I can't remember how much of just about any valuable mineral I had, plus many other things. All I know is that lag finished me off and I couldn't retrieve my stuff.

Sir Bacon of Labs was there when this tragedy occurred, and it happened in the depth of my mine where a large abandoned mineshaft lurk...

P.S. I thought I might add that I was lugging a motherload of diamond around including, I do believe, a pick.

This is why you should always carry a couple of chests at all times, the deeper you dig the more likely you are to be SoL. So make an SoL chest (even if you think you're doing fine, that's usually the best time to do so).
SoL = S**t out of Luck, but I guess Slime out of Luck works too regardless of your censorship preference :)

Wish I had that much sense. But always write down the coordinates of your chest. I've lost so many.

I was pretty annoyed a while back when I died and lost a bunch of tools totalling about 180 levels of enchantments. Try it out sometime, after that I don't mind falling in lava anymore!

Baconlabs strikes me as the sort of person who won't be back after having tasted Tekkit.

I've gone exploring!

I went to the Gray, then I went through the Tundra...now I'm on in Island I labelled Travellers Refuge. Making a little home there, then I'm continuing on.

Exploring is awesome!

Tekkit is okay, but what'll really be awesome is the FTB (Feed the Beast) Modpack. The main issue I have with Tekkit and Technic is the way the modpack team goes about their business, from what I've seen they basically compile the modpack without author permissions. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cause incomparability issues and outdated versions of the mods being used together.

FTB is a modpack that's actually being worked on by the the mod authors in conjunction with someone who understands the fundamentals of the mods, so the actual final pack is a far more stable, self-maintained package.

:S I know it looks rant-y, but I'm just saying that Tekkit/Technic isn't all that fabulous on both a technical level (thing is hugely incompatible with itself and unbalanced) and on an organisational level (the main dev has outright said he doesn't care about permissions).

tl;dr : FTB will rock, Tekkit is okay but could be better on many levels and Vanilla MC is actually much more awesome than it was in 1.2.5 already :S.

I'm back; which outline at the platform is the real one? the outer, or inner one?

@NeoSpade

So, uhhh....what's the Feed the beast even going to have in it? you didn't really give much detail other than the people who make the mods for it are actually working together.

Its the same mods as Tekkit/Technic, but the actual mod makers making the pack. It'll probably update less frequently than Technic, but be far more stable/compatible with itself.

@SwampTroll

The outline that is correct is the one that has the stair-like bits attached to them. I removed all traces of the incorrect outer-wall other than the part where I did a semi-circle in the wrong direction :S

Building a village to suit the aesthetic tastes of Testificates instead of my own is actually pretty fun.

I started with two testificates (from spawn eggs) and the rest bred themselves. There are more than I can count (they scatter all over the place) but I would estimate that I have at least 40 right now. Both those Iron Golems in the background spawned naturally, so I know there can't be less than 32 adult Testificates.

On my explorations, I discovered a new village! It was in a desert, and it's comprised of many sandstone, chiselled sandstone, and sand. It looks really amazing. Since its so far away from the main continent, I named it Farington.

I'm pretty sure it is, that looks like Mt. James in the background.
